Lazed away the morning. Dave called to wish me Happy Birthday before he reported for duty – about 9:15 here. Nice card from Kathi & Bob with $50 check. Erma Hutchman called inviting me for dinner. Lyle Patton called wanted me to meet him at Heritage Hall. He had orders for 12 bricks. Worked out logistics. McNeal’s from Galion there. Descended from Als. McNeal abolitionist. Had other McNeal stories. Told Eula & Margaret about strategy to keep walls from going up. Bill helped me pick up leaves at Mary J’s. Erma’s supper delicious. She gave me a flat angel, Bill gave me high lysine corn for birds, tomatoes & a luffa sponge gourd. Bill’s family history book a masterpiece.

Still warm. Gary got top on cabinet. It’s faux marble with sink built in – with marble back splash.
Trtying to figure out a strategy to keep Telfer from putting up walls in lobby. Has been a year since Judith Kitchen gave grudging approval & she’s gone. Should we ask preservation office to re-evaluate their decision?
Should we present arguments to Jack?
Wrote Day Before Yesterday on Bicentennial of Bill of Rights & took to Star with Charlton’s What it Means to Be an American. Picked up brick orders at Heritage Hall & copy of Maxine Marshall’s letter demanding $22.50 for Cemetery book instead of the $15 Gift Shop collected. Supper with Mary at Wendy’s. Wrote to Maxine & sent my check for $60 to cover differences on 8 books.
Called Kass – Shawn didn’t show up. Kass says he probably didn’t want to lose his welfare check. (Found out later he was arrested on domestic violence charge!)

MCHS – 3 hrs
Wrote minutes of program meeting last night and a Day Before Yesterday to go with Charlton Myers ‘What it Means to be an American’ Bill of Rights appreciation. Sent copies to Kris & Dave with short letter.
Watered all new landscape plants at roots with river water. Raked enough leaves to fill upper compost pile & put some of the Boger cow patties among them.

Gary laid underlayment on floor & got the cabinets installed in sink area.

Bob Harter called to see if Marion Co. is involved in protesting a dam on the Scioto at Bellepoint. He has prairie species spotted there. John Watkins called & asked me to help him think of ways the Ohio State Fair Board & the Ohio Historical Society can cooperated in making more use both facilities – especially youth and Seniors./

A Shawn Miller of Wood Valley stopped by inquiring about a job at Hemmerlys. Called the shop & set up an appointment at 9:230 tomorrow with Kass.

55-71 mostly sunny
MCHS 3 hrs
Bath & hair wash not profitable since I spent four hours mowing leaves, both upper level & in the woods & around pond. Most of the leaves are down, but weather perfect.

Gary Brammel here about 10:30 to start remodelling bathroom. Got cabinet out in pieces but thinks he can salvage the sink & the toilet for H.A.N.D. – Prepared floor to lay underlayment. Nu-Supply deliver the materials.

In at 6:30 & picked up Marion LaMarche. She had called me offering her mother’s fancy hats to MCHS & I invited her to attend program. Member for years but first time she had attended.
Julia Vanderhoff has a marvelous collection of 600 vintage hats & gives a humorous interpretation of what they represent. But she gave no information on the history. In contrast tammy

Gary Brammel called at 8:00 saying he wouldn’t be here until tomorrow. Good thing – gave me time to get boxes & boxes of things out of bathroom.

In at 3:30 to meet with kass to go over possible changes involved in building new refrigerator on West Wall of work room. John Bauldauf came in about 4:00 to confer, but he feels commercial cooler builders (like meat coolers) coulddo it cheaper for us. Talked about removing the deep sink in middle of work room.
Met Mary at Perkins about 5:00 for supper. Home & bed early

Not enough hours to do all the things we wanted to crowd in even with the extra hour we got from the time change.
Kids & David helped me plant prairie seeds across the road in gravel. Had a weiner roast in woods for lunch & John Knickel joined us. He has walked the whole of the Whetstone [Olentangy] River noting sings of former activities – Mills, quarries, etc. Drove the Ralph Boger’s meadow to the ford that John thinks is only one still being used. Near here is remains of WPA dam blown up in ‘40’s after river detoured around it. Karen fixed vegetables for pot roast & pumpkin pie. For supper. David & Karen to shop to free up disk space.
Haldemans left after supper about 6:00 & collapsed with Sunday papers.

Royce here to clean. In to meet Mary at Hemmerly’s at 3:15. To Columbus via Rt 23, I 270 & 315 to downtown where the replica of the Santa Maria is docked near the Broad Street Bridge. (under reconstruction). Met David & family on quay. David, Sarah & I toured ship – rest not interested – Then to Shcmidt’s Sausage in German Village wth David treating for my birthday dinner. I had the buffet. Then to Clipper Stadium on Mound St for the State Band finals – Josh & Sarah marching in Walnut Hills Band. Watched several other bands – all good, but the Drum & Bugle corps formations not as impressive to me as drill marching. W. H. got a Superior – 150 members – Mary & I brought Susannah home with us. Got groceries at Big Bear & got home just before Haldemans did.
