Rainy off and on- sure glad I postponed picnic until Sunday.
Ray and boys got East deck finished and laid out steps and platform to patio and steps to river.
Wes Sharp and helper here from Peacocks to put in fin radiation in greenhouse. Will finish tomorrow. But making room for them to work got me to cleaning basement. Got everything moved and cleaned except South wall. Dave got into Daddy’s tool chest. Not much left in it for such a big chest
Dick and Ruth Davidson stopped on way to Maurice Richmond’s showing- Dick’s uncle. Brought a framed 1914 Marion County map put out by Harding Publishing Company value $150. A gift to Marion County Historical Society. Says Rusty will be back Friday or Saturday to finish caulking.
Dave moved island in kitchen and broke mother’s dishes. CorningWare. (For Christmas he bought me another one – added 2009 )

Foertsch not here till 9:30. Had to pick up lumber I ordered at Wolohan’s yesterday. Not the best- have to take back five posts.
They got South deck on. Had to repair area under TV room where joists got wet when roof leaked and carpenter ants did their dirty work. I went to Wolohan’s to pick up insulation for under there and a 12×16 ft board. While I had Ray’s truck also got 12 sections post and rail fence for along road.
Mary and Kenny out for a while.
Called Nikon- Garden City, New York this a.m. and found that even with modification my lenses won’t work with the FA I bought- i.e. to use the all over exposure reading and automatic features. Also the Vivitar flash goes on so hard it’s almost impossible to get off.
Called David to see what time they will be up Wednesday after Karen takes entries. They aren’t coming! Karen still sewing kids clothes to enter.

Dave left at 7:00 for Sierra Club canoe trip on Little Miami. Back about 11:00 p.m.
I wrote letters to Doc Brown- County Commissioner asking that things left from Courthouse Centennial be given to Historical Society.
Made labels for Ellen Pratt to use for board meeting August 20th.
In at 5:00 to meet Mary and Ken for dinner at Perkins. Then out to Ray Foertsch’s of LaRue with my plans for South and East decks. He made out bills of lumber for me. Walked back to where city is digging pond for him using dirt to cover landfill.
Kathi and Bob called- real excitement. Bob did a parachute jump from 4,000 ft. 5 minute descent.

Royce here to clean but everything in a mess- did clean rec room some. Rainy so no work on deck.
Dave and I in at 3:00 so he could go to Navy recruiters. I went to the shop for 2 hours. May’s report showed a profit of $7,000- first this year we’ve been out of the red. But Kass has put $6,400 in the Cardinal fund- how do you explain that?
Dave and I to Sister’s Chicken for supper. He has decided to enlist in Navy. Will try for their nuclear program. He says Kathi and Bob, Aunty and David all think it is the best thing for him to do. But they haven’t invested 4 years in him as I have.

Woke to pounding of hammer and by 3:30 floor was laid and railings up on deck under beech! Real progress. But they had to pour new footing for pergola. Even after I told Ray it was crooked they poured one 4 ft. from house instead of 5!
Mary and Ken out at 2:30 to “supervise”- left at 3:30 for Columbus. To Chick’s Camera Shop and I bought a Nikon FA- all over metering gives good pictures in dappled shade but I will have to have my lenses modified $20 each. Also got a Vivitar dedicated flash. total $450.
Supper at MCL Cafeteria near Eastland then back Broad Street to Franklin Conservatory but it closed at 4:00. Stopped at Whitehall Library and copied Hemmerly’s from directories. To airport at 9:00- 10:05 plane with Dave didn’t arrive until 11:30. Stopped at halfway house for a snack and home at 2:00 a.m.
