half inch rain!
Jim and Ann Herring came to Terradise and filled their van with pots of variegated hosta, ostrich fern and wild geraniums they dug. Also pots of Lily of The Valley. Missed visit to Terradise Nature Preserve because of half hour thunderstorm.
At Jim Carpenter’s request Gale emailed me the news release on placing the tree markers at Terradise Nature Preserve. Also email from Gale about my reaction to her Mother’s Day card- fantastic tribute and offer of Prairie plants.
Perused Better Homes and Gardens Illustrated Guide to Gardening (1978)- marked species growing at Terradise
Dan Eblen called tonight to remind me of appointment for permanent at 9:30 tomorrow

Jim pruned the Forsythia by fence along road- cut off most of the ‘Howard’ campanula in bed by mailbox. Cleared the weeds under dogwood tree and pruned suckers. Planted Homestead tomato plants along lower drive. Cleared weeds from around the three bedelia at end of lower drive. 9:30 to 1:45 $45.
He installed the new modem from Embark. I took pics of hosta and ferns on lower terrace and took them to Garden Club meeting- and Dr. Hering will be out to dig some. Bought an apple pie at Meijer to take to Garden Club potluck. There were seven pies! only one slice taken from mine. Dr. Hering had PowerPoint presentation on Messenger Plant Booster and Fungicide- organic. But can only be purchased online for $150! Gift of pink sweetheart rose from club.
Deposited $50 check from Central Ohio Native Plant Society to my checking account. It was made to Terradise Nature Preserve and will cover the $50 I paid for the tree markers. The $10,000 from HH bond has been deposited so my checking account is over $20,000. But real estate tax is our due and landscaping. Reassure America annual report- death value $156,000 even after redoing $20,000 in the past year.
Finished reading ‘Remember with Me’ by Ruth Lyons- mother’s beloved book with her comment

Triggered by the visit of Don and Le Nye Brown and their connection to the Kehrweckers, I pulled the Kehrwecker file from the genealogy file cabinet in my office to find the connection to Odra. She married Art but not sure of connection to Le Nyei. Entered info provided in 1992 from David Watson, Lexington, Ohio. David Haldeman’s 5th cousin. His ancestor John Michael Kehrwecker was brother of David’s ancestor Christian Kehrwecker.
Two planters on Deck by gazebo were turned over and plants pulled out!
Took an hour to sweep the walk by the dogwood- accumulation of sunflower debris- filled hummingbird feeder. Updated garden book for blooming- iris, Dames Rocket, cerastrum, globe allium, beauty bush.

Watered everything. Purple 9 bark was wilted. Planted all the rest of pansies, petunias, etc to fill in pots. Moved upper, lower and wood grass for one and a half hours.
To Mount Gilead to visit Dave and Marilyn’s garden. Such lush growth on everything. Two red Rhododendron and potted- $16 at Amish auction. Iris outside fence along the alleyway. Interplanted with red peonies, red and white and blue petunias and huge hanging baskets. He made special hangers to support them from the Gazebo posts. Snapdragon seedlings by hundreds- gave me a pot full.
Calls from Kathi and Robin Cook.

Watered combination pots. To Heritage Hall at 1:00. wanted to download pictures from my camera that I took of Harry Condry while he was placing about 20 of the 25 tree identification markers. But I forgot to take connection card and couldn’t transfer from memory card even with Jim Carpenter’s help.
Jim and Le Neye Brown of Beaver, Pennsylvania visited resource center. She said she had heard of me her whole life since Bill, Art, Ruth, Emma Kehrwecker were her aunts and uncles. mother Odra Kehrwecker Bradshaw. She was so pleased to finally meet me. Don former Erie Lackawanna engineer had Marion Star clippings of removing railroad cars from Crystal Lake- had been used in quarry. Lisa Carlisle Marion Area Genealogical Society volunteer encouraged them to buy Day Before Yesterday $25- Don paid plus $5 for donation box. Had to shoo them out at 4:00 so Jim and I could go to Marion Cemetery to dump the heavy flower box. Mixed with clay and plant white petunias and pink geraniums. Also planted a smaller box of plants on George Sifritt’s grave. Got a car wash $10 across from the cemetery gate. Stopped at Jim’s sister’s house to see her garden. Not ready for visitors!

To Marion Cemetery at 10:45 for internment of Dorcas Shaffer. Well attended. Rev Kiger spoke warmly of her life and of Jack’s care of her. Becky Yanitell and Stu Shank helped me to my car.
Took the post and flag to place it at the George Sifritt’s monument. Nice couple (walking) helped place it.
To Trella Romine Green Camp Prairie. Gate was open but no sign of Kensel. Dames Rocket too far for me to walk. Took photo of recently re-erected ‘Old Block House’ marker. Green Camp Township trustees helped Dick Cary erect using the auger to dig the hole.
To Meijer- eight pink geraniums for leg cramp [sic] and 82 low dose aspirin.
To Le Salon at 1:45 for my 2:30 appointment and Dan told me it was for 10:45 so now next Thursday at 9:30 for perm.
Called David since he said he might be up today but he said I just got here to pack up the equipment so it would be too late to come up.
Trash men picked up the eight sealer buckets.

Breakfast with David on the deck. He tried to correct the wiring on the three way switch in the hall but no go. He mowed paths down in the woods. Left for Columbus at 10:15 a.m. I planted the variegated sage in last year’s pot of sage and rosemary and the lavender in bloom from Sue Harter in the perennial bed by lower drive. Watered everything.
Saw an indigo bunting in hawthorne and heard a Great Crested Fly Catcher across the river. Wrens singing by box on lamppost by upper driveway and by box outside greenhouse.
Royce cleaning- $50. After she left I cleaned the banisters, deacon’s bench and siding on the front porch. Jack Rose has not picked up the sealer cans nor re-piled the wood by the garage door. It’s blocking the steps. He is a liar and scam artist.
A new Embark modem delivered by Federal Express

Wrote two letters to Bill Laidlaw- director Ohio Historical Society- One to vote for Ken Davidson for 2009 Tiffin award recipient and one to thank him for information on the Ray Romine lepidoptera collection I donated to Ohio Historical Society.
House phone not working. Couldn’t find cell phone so drove to Harry Condry house on Brocklesby Road- new house back a long Lane to take the 25 tree markers for Terradise Nature Preserve and set up time to distribute them to the trees. We’ll meet Saturday at 9:30 a.m. here. He has tree swallows in his bird boxes.
David at Ohio Funeral Directors convention starting today. He will be here to spend night. Arrived about 7:00. Fixed the TV in my bedroom- converter box was unplugged and remote needed new batteries. Found my cell phone in pocket of jacket in the golf cart by calling it and following sound.

Called door guys and first one here by 10:30. Broken spring on garage door and he left to get a new one. About 1:30 another door guy Chad came and finished the repair and also serviced the north door $249. Jim Carpenter arrived at 9:30- he used weed eater under fence by road and the bank along lower driveway. Raked up the wind rows from mowing yesterday.
He emptied pots where things didn’t grow and mixed with peat and sifted into potting benches. I used it all potting up Sue’s gifts. Jim planted red morning glories by greenhouse and Heavenly Blue by side porch.
We had cleaned out the utility room around the water meter and the Ohio American water meter installer came about 1:30 and replaced old meter. Mandated every 15 years.
Loaded six pots of tomato plants into Prius and took to Heritage Hall to give to board members. Each pot had at least three plants and they were 5 to 10 in tal-. from seed in March. Betty White, Carol Robinson, Nancy Gracely and others got them. Jack Shaffer confirmed appointment to Phyllis Glascoe’s seat- expires 2011.
