temperature 55° cloudy windy a.m.
To sum it up precisely ‘I lived today- the work has kept quite nicely.’
Steve Smith out about 10:00 with his bill- $1,300 plus $450 for island. Got to chatting about many things including his buying of Bill and Erma Hutchman’s 3 acres on East River Road and in to planting a prairie. So we went to Claridon Prairie to collect seeds for him. Big and little blue stem, sawtooth sunflower, tall coriopsis, gray headed coneflower, liatrus, etc. He didn’t leave until after 12:00
12:00. Took Howard to Reece’s for groceries and got wieners, pop, potato chips for wiener roast down in woods with trailer park kids – Jason, Chad, Nat & Sean. They picked up sticks for the bonfire. I mowed leaves after we ate and they continued to feed fire.
Dee called to see what to do about getting license. I told her to wait until Dave gets back from Sea Duty on November 19th.
Tired. Watched Young Edison on TV and Golden Girls & Empty Nest.

Continuing to put things away and relegate odds and ends to basement garage cupboard. Finally got kitchen ship-shape and scrubbed floor.
Mary Jordan and Carl and Mary Hecker picked me up at 4:00 to and to Jerry’s in Galion for dinner. All had scalloped potatoes and ham and I had a birthday cake and accordion serenade. Beautiful red sky driving home.
Berlin wall down after 28 years. It went up while Kathi, David and I were on our trip to West Coast in 1961.

Ralph Hedges finished papering kitchen. I gathered up things for Salvation Army including Ray’s ping pong table, four chairs, electric grill, ironing board, hair dryer etc. But they didn’t come to pick them up. I left at 1:00 for Heritage Hall to meet Gary Barnhart in archives. He is sorting newspaper collection to shelves. 2:00 press conference with release of Heritage Hall brick and sponsor program for transformation fund. 3:00 met Kathleen Haldeman at Recorder’s Office to research ownership of Lippincott house her daughter bought. Hap Dowler helped her when I got stuck.
4:45 p.m. met Mary at Ponderosa for steak. Then to her house to select books I wanted from her attic collection- Rocky had good taste. Then she gave me book containing uncle Jim’s account of trip to Florida in 1911 and Forest’s trip in 1913 when he was 13. Another family treasure.

Ray Foertsch here to fasten cupboards from kitchen to garage wall to left of greenhouse doors. Took storm doors to shed to store. That involved cleaning out north side of shed, putting shutters in rafters, sending Miriam Stowe’s rugs and the skids to Heritage Hall that held the newspaper collection from OHS. Swept out eight year’s collections of squirrel acorns. Then Ray put up pegboard so it was solid on north garage wall and was able to hang most tools.
Had him take carpets and the snow blower to Heritage Hall donating it to society as I have never used it in 4 years. Bought it from Kenny for $200.
Returned Bill Nolan’s call to thank him for award he maneuvered for me at OAHSM annual meeting. Caledl Kathi after I edited her rap verse Christmas letter. 8° in Anchorage for high. Have had an offer of $165,000 for their house.

Up early and off to Columbus to board meeting of Ohio newspaper project funded by National Humanities Council. $450,000 cataloging all newspaper collections in Ohio. Interesting reports from field workers. About 15 Counties have been surveyed.
Stopped by Local History Office for evaluation with Richard Frankovigila. Found that everyone of the snack breaks (there were six) cost about $250! That’s enough to put us in the hole on the annual meeting again.
Also Tom Kuhn didn’t share final revision of regional affairs and book with him.

Drug bust and car broken into on parking lot of Days Inn but I slept through it all.
Lucy Wood attending but still very cool to me. Won’t forgive me for pointing out no railroad runs through Claridon!
Great sessions again. All ran smoothly. At business meeting Bill Nolan presented me with award of achievement and read a whole page of them! I was in tears. Pat Cummins elected president and John Burley handled the words very expeditiously. Let me actually present them to 19 recipients.
Left Columbus about 4:00 feeling good about meeting. Almost 250 registered. Got to Cincinnati before 6:00. Usual ho-hum reception from Karen, Sarah, Josh and Jed but David and Susannah made up for it. David had to leave to play wedding. Had pasta for supper. Slept in upstairs bedroom sewing room and used new bathroom.
