Thursday, January 3, 1991
Got the boxed Christmas tree down the steps & into Howard’s room, in basement with his help. That led to finishing(?) cleaning the garage. At least the trash in segregated & the floor swept.
Spent afternoon writing news releases about designation of Terradise as a Natural Landmark & notice of Nature Club next Tuesday.
Sorted photos as I watched TV – Got material ready for Eual Rhoads that I had sent Helen earlier – minutes opf board meeting – my evaluation of Jack’s spreadsheet & plan for using Functions as basis of board meeting agenda.
David called asking me to take PC Anywhere (modem program) in to Hemmerly’s tomorrow morning to install it so he can upgrade Hemmerly’s payroll to conform with new Federal separation of Soc Sec & Medicare Taxes.
McKee didn’t come to fix antenna.

Don Davis here to appraise Terradise for OSUM transfer. Fair Market Price hard to determine when no comparable acreage has been available.
Packed away the Christmas decorations & undecorated the tree. When I saw Howard’s basement room while Davis was here I knew something had to be cleaned out. In corner by door I moved the cardboard wardrobe from Everett Hemmerly’s sale. By removing paper trash made room for C’mas tree in other corner by door. Now I have to decide whether to burn it illegally as I have for the past several years.
About 2:00 Sears delivered my new Sony 19” KY20T530 57-42748 – Still no reception on 28 & 34 like it was on the old one. So called Brian McKee who installed the new antenna a couple of weeks ago.
Left my hearing aid on island in kitchen last night & it was gone this morning. Howard said he hadn’t seen it but he unloaded the dishwasher & he always puts the dishes on the island.

MCHS 1
Mary H. & Helen Romine out about 4 for roast port & sauerkraut. Spent most of day getting house in shape & cooking. Helen brought carrot-pineapple-raisin salad to add to my Waldorf Salad & mashed potatoes. Had Kathi’s date nut bread for dessert.
Kathi called about 10:30 AM – She’s pooling her C’mas money from me with Bob’s to get him a heavy duty drill.
Call from Ed Lux about 5 Mute Swans on swale between SR 309 & Williamsport Rd near Messengers. So just before sunset we headed out to find them.
Looked at them from both roads & their bills looked black to us – making them Tundra Swans.
Nice visit with Mary & Helen until after 9 – Told them about Kent’s call-
Eula Rhoads called & talked for an hour – mostly rehash, but told her I was trying to reconstruct a Transformation Fund Spreadsheet that made more sense than Telfers. Will send her a copy. Read her Caroll Neidhart’s letter about Telfer but didn’t say who wrote it.

Did a Terradise Christmas Bird Count from my windows – 13 species – about 75 birds – Also during count period – blue jay, great blue heron, Carolina wren.
Had to keep reminding myself that we had already had a wonderful “Christmas Day” – so enjoyed my leisure & at the TV dinner left over from Thanksgiving.
Read “Fumble Rules” that Mary gave me – Safire should be teaching grammar in every school in the land. Finally got through to me on banishing passive voice. (Put the subject, not the object, first)
