Saturday, June 13, 1981 3″ rain – Garden flooded again
Water coming over road from Wood Valley.

Tornado wiped out business area of Cardington PM. Pictures on TV look like devastation. 2 killed – 40 injured – no names yet.

Riegers in from Florida last night – Visited mother & Mary with Ray & Edema Dutt before coming to shop. Took them out to lunch. Rain poured all AM & PM.

Mary & Ken out where about 7 & while they were here it came over garden again. Smells from septic tank flooded across road.

Flood coming up all day. Covered pump & up to 7th step.

To Salem United Church of Christ for Memorial Service for Marie Rieger – Terrible hot. Drove by Harding Memorial to see the celebration of the dedication of Memorial 50 years ago. Remember when Doris Shuster and I went to hear Pres. Hoover give the dedication address. Saw Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone & Calvin Coolidge, too. Mother bought me a Panama Hat at Franks to protect my head.
