Had 2 tons sand delivered $30. Need it to finish brick walks & fill in lawn. In at 11:30 for Exec Board meeting of Altrusa at Ross Rest. Found that CDs are paying 15.8%! To see Gary Bigler at hospital. Probably will have operation on discs in spine. Very painful. To shop to copy letter for MCHS Board meeting & letter to Howard’s “cousin” in Laguna Beach. Great-grandparents.

To Boyd house at 4:30 to meet Wayne Harper. Bill Patterson & Eve Reiff. Wayne optimistic about cost of “moving in.” Will draw up plans & estimates.

To see mother – introduced me “I’m her mother.” To Mary & Carl’s & picked them & Heckers up to go to “Lee’s Steak House” for dinner. Then Mary Jordan & I to library for open meeting of residents of Old Village Marion.

About 10 there who are not on the “Committee”. Called Kathi after 11 & Don had called telling Davie to come on August 25 to start school August 26! Will do custody work later.

Terry Zacharias over to help move trunk from Gatewoods to My Rec Room. Haven’t investigated contents. Then he helped me with brick walk by greenhouse. He is very quiet. Wonder if he lost his driver’s license?

Worked on lining up committee for MCHS & letter for August 18 meeting. Called Boyd’s to tell them we would like to look over their house tomorrow at 4:30 to see how much it would take to make usable.

Cooked chicken & froze 3 plates. Cleaned electric skillet.

Letters from Kathi about David’s plans. Wrote to Don & Rita thanking them for taking him & offering to take him until June when they would rather have him.

Called Karen & heard about Altrusa Convention. She brought “2 meetings month” to a crisis.

Poured “Amate” on poison ivy – East of shack a real mess. Worked on levelling new brick walk. Impatiens & begonias & ageratum blooming beautifully.

Picked mother up at 3:00 & drove to Union Co. Stopped at Maskill Cemetery along Bokes Creek. Into Logan Co. past “Point View Farm” – Sandwich in Bellefontaine & then to Del Goff’s in West Mansfield. Mother not able to get out of car so chatted in driveway. Checked some genealogy facts. Home about 7:30. 115 miles.

[Busy Schedule for August 1981!]

Saturday, August 1, 1981
Wedding at Fite Memorial Shroyer – used my new facing kneeling bench & the 3 branch caldelabra with globes.

Not busy at shop. Cleaned my office some bringing home MC Hist Soc. stuff & the electric typewriter. Picked mother up after stopping at Nocolls Furniture & brought her ou with me to see how a blue low back chair looked in the room. But finally decided on 2 “camel” – on sale at $129 instead of the regular $189.

Letter from David – Kenton book sold! He had rediscovered “Intimations of Immortality.”

David Frost (commentator) “The Prince said ‘With all my goods I thee endow’ instead of ‘With all my worldly goods.’ Now did Princess Diana get a better or poorer deal?”

“The Royal Wedding” Up at 7 – TV on just as they announced Prince Charles & Princess Diana were made [sic] & wife. Elaborate procession from St. Paul’s Cathedral amidst cheering crowds – horses – gilded carriages. Glad I visited St. Paul’s in 1972 – it was then being rejuvenated with a huge banner reading “Save St. Pauls”

Gary Bigler off with back poblems – Stems from old injury.

Laura Ellen Nesbitt first day at Hemmerly’s
Felt all day I should call Kathi & when I did at 11:30 PM she said Dave had decided to go to live with Don & Rita. So Bob has forced Kathi’s son from his life as he did Steve. Thank goodness Dave had another outlet. Had called K to offer her a trip home Aug. 14 but with this she would rather come at Christmas.

House cleaned around my bed & washed. Wrote David to send him “offer to sell” & ask him to buy Edna Keaton’s “Simon Kenton” adv in Cincinnati in “Tr-State-Trader” Picked up Clara Gillan at 4:15 & Elizabeth Withrow at 5:00. Stopped at Fashion COrner in LaRue – good dress shop of Barbara Lyon. Then to David Corwin’s in Logan Co. where they have built a log house from 2 nearby. Delighful couple. Home 11:15.
