To Mother’s at 9:30 – Mary & Kenny already there removing things from drawers – refrigerator – etc. to move her to Mary’s in the room they built 2 yrs ago for her. Has private bath – outside entrance & porch – cost them $10,000. Hushed Kenny when I hear him tell mother “Once you leave here your’e never gonna be back here!” Told him we had to give her hope that she wasn’t leaving for good. In PM took Cheryl, Judy & Kass up to see what was in garage. Brought Grandma & Grandpa Sheneman’s Marriage Certificate home with me – married 29 Feb 1872. Grandma was 19 – and pregnant!!

Thursday, August 13, 1981
Moved bed stead to attic & cleaned off the steps up that were full of things to be “stored”. Sorted magazines – Some to attic some to throw away – Decided to go to Ohio Genealogy Society Library at 1:00 to check Hurlbut information from Washington Co.

1/2 hr to Mansfield instead of 45 min Columbus. Pretty good county history selection & copier easy to use. Stopped at Kingwood for about 20 minutes – annuals gorgeous. Had corn on the cob ($150 doz at Lawrence on 309 by Marion) & Bacon Lettuce & tomatoe sandwich for dinner.

Copied Hurlbut Pequot War & Benoni scalping for genealogy.

Wednesday, August 12, 1981
Terry loafing at shop so took him to mother’s to get school desk for our “Back to School” display.

Mary there. She got permanent this morning & I got one at 2:30 – Marsha Eblin’s “Styling Salon” – $25 instead of $40 at Head Shop – But took 3 hrs. almost.

Met Heckers & Jordans at K of C Hall for $3 Pasta Bar. Futtuccini delicious – 4 other sauces.

Grass seed up that I planted a week ago – Howard has watered every day.

Monday, August 10, 1981
Dorothy Todd here to clean. Does a quick good job. Got the Rec Room done too. $4 hr.
Ray & Don Foertsch here to move RR ties to front bank & shore up the one by greenhouse. Had them move filing cabinet from bathroom closet to Rec Room- starting my “Genealogy Room” down there.

Terry Zacharias out & took flagstones out of steps near greenhouse & laid for walk. Made a step with part of RR tie.

Told Kass to hire Brenda Eiseman 4 days a week for Gary.

Sorted genealogy & made corrections from Allen’s* copies returned.

Nice 1/2″ rain in thunderstorm.

Brenda Eisman really got a work out on first day.
Gardened AM. Set final seedlings of Blitz impatiens that Howard planted in June!

In at 2:30 & shop in a turmoil – 9 funerals on board. Helped out until 5:00. Called Mother – She fell during night. Bruised. She took sleeping pill – So was out – & tried to walk.

Went up at 5 & listened to her for 45 minutes. She used to complain that Thelma Brown Spears, next door, never came over. Now she complains that when she comes over all she does is talk & doesn’t give her a chance to say anything!

Finished Hurlbut Genealogy except some information I’d like to include that I need from Columbus.

Sunday, August 9, 1981
Had meat loaf – squash cassarole – etc. Served mother’s 91st Birthday dinner at 5 for her – Mary & Kenny & Howard.

Mary & Carl – Walt – Olgua & Denise [Janese] in later for cake & ice cream.

Mother needs much help up & down steps & getting into car – But Mary says the bigger the audience the more help she needs.

Saturday, August 8, 1981
Put Gandert wedding on porch for their pickup. In to shop at 9:30. Chris & I to St. Marys to decorate. She stayed to service 11:30 wedding & to do 1:30 (Kapcar) wedding. I set up Emmanuel Lutheran – delivered Reception flowers to Kapcar on Holliday Dr. & then to Trinity Lutheran – set up & service – & back to service Emmanuel Lutheran.

Shop dead when I got back but had been very busy AM.

Nel & I went to Ponderosa for supper. Coupon gave us 2 steak dinners for $4.99

Stopped to see Gary. Operated on Thursday – Removed a disc & scar tissue from previous operation.

Friday, August 7, 1981
Worked on committees for Historical Society. Couldn’t sleep last night so got up at 2 & typed dummy for program book until 6:00. Slept till 9:00.

In to shop at 10:30 – 5 weddings activity heavy. Pat is on vacation for 2 weeks.

Thursday, August 6, 1981
Sorted clothes – what to do with them!

Made squash casserole for Membership Committee Meeting here tonight. Got house surface cleaned.

Phyllis Malo & Margaret & John Cottrell out about 6. Brought cheese & fruit. Mary & Kenny had stopped on way home from Akron & I sent them over for lunch meat – so had a nice supper.

Amazed that membership dues notices hadn’t been sent since March – But think John & Margarte will get things organized.

Wednesday, August 5, 1981
Worked on brick walk by greenhouse. Hauled 1/2 Ton sand to lawn around septic tank where grawss is bad. Put compost on also before seeding. Howard moved lower lawn. He has be having muscle cramps & not able to work much. After resting I mowed upper lawn with new mower – It started easy for me!

Sorted genealogy that I have finished. Have Coleman, Hurlbut & Stokely part to do.
