Copied Faye Zimmerman* Scrapbook

Marker dedication went well – 3 Post 6 Explorer Scouts of 1965 & mother there. Just wish it were a bronze marker & not a plastic sign! Judege Myers idea. But he spoke well of the Indian Trails in 1781 – Then on to Fanny & Floys – But they had a cold & couldn’t go to Ada with us to visit Faye & Gayle Zimmerman. Faye was delighted to have her clippings copied & new protectors over the originals. She gave me the originals of Samuel & Suzanne Zimmerman, Bakers Golden Wedding, Samuel’s death & David Hemmerly’s death in 1895. Then she gave me a deep dish – ironstone china – tea pattern that the Samuel Baker’s gave the Peter Zimmermans on their golden wedding in 1891. It was on the table the day Carolline Hemmerly Zimmerman (Mrs. Peter) entertained Sarah Baker Hemmerlya s she came from Dr. where she learned she had cancer. It is to go to Sarah Haldeman – throught David – Supper at Fanny & Floys – home by 9:00 PM.

[*Faye is a 3rd cousin descended from Margaretha Hemmerly. She and her sister Gayle (both spinsters) were in possession of the Hemmerly papers from Germany until given to David Haldeman in 1967. (see Ancestry.com]

To WMRN at 8:00 – Madge* called last night that the Washburns had let her down – so would I talk about the tour – the Society & the Owl Creek Trail – so did.
No weddings to service. One “will call” – unpacked Gold Medal shipment.

Took Owl Creek Program to Harding Home for Ellen Pratt to letter cover. She’s good at calligraphy & I ran 39 copies on Hemmerly’s copier.

To Veva over to Mother’s & gave her blankets & pans. I brought home some treasures.
Called Mary – they stopped at Don Shusters. Chauncey Shuster died & Bill & WIlda there.

Worked on program for Owl Creek Trail marker. Wrote to Winn’s & Kennedy’s declining $100,000 offer & giving them until Oct 15 to accept my $150,000 – $5,000 (car, typewriter, etc)
Judy & I restocked shelves.

Got hair cut & set at 9 & stopped in to give Mother lunch. Mary & Kenny went to Rio Grande – Bob Evans Sausage Festival & on to W. Va.

Lunch at Turroffs with Irma Campbell, John Cottrell & Phyllis Malo & drew up $3,000 budget for MCHS 1981-82.

Called David & he also says no to $110,000 offer. Nina Jones here cleaning. Spider webs in all the corners.

Marcella Haldeman came for dinner & brought bratwurst & baked apples. I made summer squash casserole & salad from garden & served watermelon.

Then to Palace to see & hear William WIndom in “Thurber” Hilarious – Fables – Walter Mitty – New Yorker pieces. David has overlooked Thurber!

Pat & Chuck Winn – Chris & her parents Dick & Ruth Kennedy asked to see me so we met at 6 in my office & they gave me a verbal offer of $110,000 cash. I gave no hint of whether or not I would accept but gave them a tour of the shop pointing out the inventory & explaining why we no longer had the $13,000 cash that we had on June 30 as it had been used to pay dividends & to buy inventory for C’mas.

Called Kathi & she does not want to accept it. Would give her & David about $12,000 after taxes.
