Friday, August 27, 1943
Bernard left for the army today. Quite a group to see him off. We took Mary Johnston & kids down. Took Rosina with me afterwards to church & shop for a dress. Up here for supper & then after shelling lima beans. Carol came in & we went to see “Heaven Can wait” – Wally sat in some chewing gum! Rosina has moved in with her mother. I think she hated to go home.
Mildred Gorby came in this morning to help us cut Galds. She sure got a kick out of it. Had a trailer-load.

Thursday, August 26, 1943
Got up with a terrible headache. Mrs. Gorby up to see about last minute details for the picnic. Recovered sufficiently to go. Not so many there – about 40 I guess but the games & contests went quite well.

Tuesday, August 24, 1943
Washed. Then got ready for picnic for BBB tonight. Ruth Schott, Lillian Hankel, Bob Ruth, Rosina’s 2 brothers & their girls, Margaret, Merle, Mary Johnston & kids, Bertha, Rosina & Bernard. Had swell eats BBB fried the hamburgs & we boiled corn & made coffee all on the fireplace. Had home made ice cream etc. Just spent the evening talking. We got BB & Dopp kit.

Monday, August 23, 1943
Messed around getting in shape for class meeting tonight & didn’t get washing done.
Had 14 people here for class meeting. SOme new ones due to Lova. She has deserted me as my assistant & is going to teach the Cornerstone Class.
Gave everyone glads & were they glad! Bertha came back with Walt after taking some home & we had quite a chat.

Sunday, August 22, 1943
Left about 7:15 for Akron & the glad show. Took Walthouse (daddy’s boss) to New Haven. Really some grand glads – lots of new varieties. Burma especially (found out later it sells for $5 a bulb) Had dinner & fine visit with Aunty Sylvia. Jill there. Dropped her off at Barberton. Home about 9:30.

Saturday, August 21, 1943
Met 3 Scouts & did shopping for hike. About 13 of us left for Rademon’s from the school about 10:30. Girls not very responsible when it comes to the work of a hike. About pooed out when I got home. Worked in yard & garden & then Walt & I both pitched in on the house & really got it in pretty good shape.

Friday, August 20, 1943
Went out to Bertha’s this evening & she gave me a bundh of pictures, books, worship material to use while she is in the Navy. Mildred Gorby also there & got her share, too. Sure did appreciate it.
Talked to Bert Shirk about making ice cream candy for us for fair. Then to Ration Board – Can’t get sugar because we didn’t have stand last year! There goes my trip to Boston.

Thursday, August 19, 1943
Mary & Bob Johnston & kids, us & Kathy picked up BBB & Rosina for picnic at Brush Ridge Park. Boys played ball, kids got in poison ivy & we girls talked. While remembering BB gave me the kiss he had hurriedly planted on my forehead after a Hi Y dance 10 years ago. Went in at BB’s – did exercises to some records. Seems too bad all this has to be broken up.
