Worked all day composing the “Case” for the Endowment Fund campaign – 5 pages – Also did a pamphlet to be used for fund raising – came up with “Heritage Preservation Fund” instead of “Endowment” – more descriptive. Used materials supplied by Ketchum, Inc. – Fund Raising Firm.

Made snickerdoodle cookies after supper. Called David about Karen’s eye about 7:30. She has detached retina & will go to hospital tomorrow – for operation Thursday. David seemed relieved when I said I would come down. As weather report said snow 5″ later tonight & more tomorrow, I thought I’d better go tonight. Called Kass & Mary to tell them. Finished retyping Borchure for fund raising – packed & left at 9:30 PM. Snowing by time I got to 98 & kept gfetting worse. Didn’t see middle line from Waldo on. Windshield wipers froze – the 3 hr drive took 4 1/2 hrs. – David waiting up for me. Kathi had called so he called her back – I was catatonic!

Worked on MCHS minutes all day. Got boxes of things sitting around sorted & put away.

Sunny all day so about 3:30 went out for a walk along road & by shack. Animal tracks everywhere. 1″ snow on top of frozen snow made tracks show up.

Called Kathi – She got back from Mesa Friday PM. Dave wrote asking her for family birthdays. Rita threw away the calendar Kathi made for him with them on! Both kids had only A’s & B’s on grade cards.

Finished retyping picture manuscript at 11:50 & dashed to P.O. to mail to Hubbard.

Sunny but cold!

Got computer book in mail from David. Mailed yesterday along with Hemmerly’s shares that I hold as security.

Computer book fascinating. I begin to understand what they can do!

Friday, February 5, 1982
In about 2 to get print of Lafayette Hildreth made from my negative – Carl Stewart did it while I visited Esther Williamson & picked up some of her family pictures.

Did some copying at Hemmerly’s for genealogy & then to Mother’s & worked on it theere until Mary & Kenny came back from dinner at Bucyrus. Asked me to go but too busy trying to get Pix m/s in mail – and still didn’t make it. Got a covered bridge picture from one Mary took in Union County.

Snowing as I came home at 7:30. Called Lil – she got back Monday from 4 weeks in Fla.

Sent David a check for $1,400 to cover his market annual rent. Don’t think Hemmerly’s dividens will be available in time to pay it on Feb. 9.

Got the photos sorted into the manuscript & started typing titles.

Made meatloaf & baked frozen apple pie – so when Mary called & ask me to go to Galion to eat with them I invited them for supper.

Mother called demanding that I do something immediately about her house – rent it!

Mary said Ray Foertsh found 14 leaks. Repair including new stool & water tank (used) was $325. I guess mother thinks she can’t afford any expenses on the house & so is anxious to get rid of it. But she still has the $125 a month Hemmerly’s pays her.*

Finished typeing picture m/s before going to bed. Called Uncle Allen to get identification on Gil Hildreth pictgure & boys in swimming.

[No entry]Mary & I over to Mother’s to sort things in upstairs. Ray Foertsh there fixing plumbing leaks.

When we left at noon I was stuck on ice – Ray & son pushed us out so called Helen Romine not to come up to help us price things.

David called – not too encouraging about doing genealogy by computer.

Tuesday, February 2, 1982 Temp 36 side streets & alleys terrible.

To Altrusa Board – Bored as usual. Then to Social Sec office & waited an hour to give the sales contract copy to Tim Albright. He says without my last 2 years figured in my Soc Sec should be $723 a month. Told him I thought it would be more like $750.

To shop to meet Steve White to give him the manuscript for the Genealogy. Didn’t have time to work in the pictures that Al Tozer got to me late yesterday so will send them as soon asa ready.

Sent Uncle Allen his copy & letter. Also letter to K & D with copies of corp minutes.

Took news release to Ruth Green at Star on MCHS activities.

Proofs at shop from Carl – Everyone picked a different one from the 10 proofs.

Met Mary & Kenny & Jordans at Turoffs for dinner. Told Jordans of developments with Hemmerlys.

Up to see mother & picked up copy of genealogy I left for her to read. Will use it for picture placing.

Called David – at rehearsal – nice chat with Karen.

Sleety rain on top of last night’s snow. Icicles formed on every twig – even birds looked like wings were iced over.

Called Helen Romine about 12:30 & we decided not to go to Jazz Concert – Found later today it had been cancelled due to weather.

Retyped some Stokely & Hurlbut pages & the contents.

Rained all day – Temp about 40.
Spent whole day in my chair. Read some & worked on polishing genealogy. Incorporated some finding sfrom Thurs research.

Letter from Uncle Allen with check for $250 – His half of down payment of $500 when m/s is picked up.

A Mrs. Pixter nee McGrath called telling of a postcard she has of the center of Marion – trying to date it – from Description I would say 1900-1910 but she wants it closer. Told her I would come see her. She may give card to MCSH it unfolds to 20″ long.

Had popcorn for supper!
Did crossword puzzle.

Watched “One of Us – Mickey Rooney” – Sat Night Live – Barbara Mandrell & Fantasy Island on TV while working 2 crossword puzzles.
