Bfst lunch & dinner on schedule at 8: – 12 & 5:45.

Kathi called just before 8 to say Dave was at Mary’s & David at the shop after spending night at Terradise.

Worked most of day copying census records that Allen had compiled. Most everyone I would want including Zimmermans – Bakers & Hemmerlys.

Allen thrilled that I brought the marriage certificate of Emmanuel & Lucy Hildreth Sheneman. Frame was loosened so we took it apart to reglue. Photographed the tintype that was in it & also the document.

In “music” retreat to hear tape of Hildreth material Allen send in 1965 to reunion – found it among mother’s things & had sent him a copy.

They sure do like their TV loud!
High 83 – low 64 tonight.

Wednesday, July 14, 1982
Finished packing & left for airport about 10 – Dave’s plane (Frontier) left at 11:30 & we had a bad time at check in. When he saw his bags were checked to Cincinnati but his ticket said he was going to Joplin. I quickly said his uncle was picking up the bags in Cincinnati.
Kris, Kathi & I had lunch at airport cafeteria & I won $3 on a nickel slot machine. My plane was 30 min. Late flying out of Reno – Beautiful flight over Sierra – flat valley & Santa Barbara – over ocean & then into Orange County Airport. Allen & Ruth with Helen to meet me. The airport is mostly outdoors & only about 6 miles from Allen’s. Helen stayed for supper & I spilled all our troubles & then found that Mary Jane – Don Roesner’s wife has moved to an apt – leaving Don with Liz 18 & Chris 16. Also Donna’s sister-law’s brother was killed in auto accident yesterday so we all have troubles. But then I enjoyed telling Allen of my visit with the Maddox’s at the Stokely homestead.

Tuesday, July 13, 1982
I helped Kathi clean house for Sandy Cavanaugh & her daughter Stacie, 16, visit. She was a neighbor when Kathi & Don lived at Stead north of Reno 18 yrs. Ago. They came for lunch & then took kids swimming & drove up to Stead. I napped and got fruit salad ready. Bob did hamburgers on grill – (I made the patties) and we ate on patio – nice picnic.

Bob took us in the truck to MGM Grand after he created a scene because Kathi bought him a book “Ghost Towns of the West”. Made her return it. Then he gambled dollars at MGM while we visited the shops in the arcade. No one was buying anything.

Sandy & Staci stayed until about 9 & then Dave & I had to pack.

Monday, July 12, 1982
Kathi woke me at 6:45 so I could call Bob Stout to make arrangements for Dave’s custody. He will call Don’s lawyer, but said there was no problem in bringing David back to ohio as Don’s actions indicated abandonment. He told me not to call Mrs. Berger as he feels her trying to get David to stay another month here and there accusing him of theft is her way of saying she doesn’t want him, but making it look like it’s someone elses actions – not hers.

Called Frontier Airlines to make new reservation. Will cost $275 more for Dave to fly to Ohio & I couldn’t get reservations on the same flight so ended up getting TWA from Denver to Cincinnati for $255 and David H will meet him & take him to Marion & I will go to Allen’s by Air Cal to Orange Co. Airport also on Wed.

Bob & Kathi took me to dinner at Seafood place after K & I went to Mall to buy her Leotards – Bob’s birthday gift – I got her “hose” lto go with them. Had crab stuffed flounder and a great salad bar.

Visited Ellie Scarleton – who makes cute things from fabric. Kathi thought I should buy some for shop.

Sunday, July 11, 1982
To MGM Grand Buffet breakfast with Kathi & Bob – after a pleasant afternoon with the Haldeman’s at their camp site at Donner Lake. (Dave climbing huge rocks – playing Flinch with Walt & Kris & Dave) came home to Bob fuming. Called K & me to patio & said Don Decker had called saying Dave had stolen money from Mrs. Berger’s purse and $30 from Irene the retarded daughter) Dave denied that he had saying Mike – another Berger daughter’s son had shown him where Irene kept the money and that Mike counted it for her. So I suggested he call Don and tell him he didn’t take the money. Don swore at Dave terribly and said he was not to go back to Bergers. “Get off that plane” without the money he had stolen. Kathi refused to talk to Don but Bob did and Don with abusive language told Bob he wanted nothing more to do with Dave and that Trella would have to take him. Bob reaffirmed to Don & to Kathi that Dave could not stay here. So I took Dave to my room so he would not be subjected to all that talk and told him I wanted him to come with me. We called David Haldeman and he feels it is too much for me but sees no other way. We went to bed very much in turmoil.

Saturday, July 10, 1982
[In Reno, NV with Kathi & Bob]
PM Called Mrs. Berger to tell her David could come to visit me for a month & I would pay his way. She said no – he was to come back to Missouri & that would be his home.

What with washing & drying clothes, didn’t get started for Donner Lake State Park where Walt & Olgua have their RV until noon. Cooler up there. Took them to Truckee to a special bakery. Got a gorgeous banana cream pie, etc. Kathi “ferried” two car loads up to old route 40 bridge near Donner Summit as only 4 could ride at once in her Toyota. Olgua’s picnic dinner was good – fried trout from Coffey Creek, hamburgs & hot dogs on grill, potatoe salad & pickled beets & the pie.

Left the kids up there for overnight and got back to Kathi’s about 8:00. Bob’s surliness really got to me so I came to my room and wrote to David H. Told his about Steve’s stealing from me and Kathi telling me I should have sold Hemmerly’s when I had a chance. (Which hurt me greatly. Doesn’t she realize she may need it someday?)
Couldn’t sleep until about 3 AM.
