Fanny brought Mississippi Mud cake and her usual peanut bananas. Elbert & Marie Tewell & their daughter & husband (Will Baker’s granddaughter through Hazel Smith). Marie & Don stayed after others & we compared and showed genealogy.

Dave & David shot off rockets. David’s engines & Dave’s rockets. Lost 2 – they really went high. Everyone parked across the road & that was launching pad for rockets. Gave cousins things from mother’s house. Kenny Hemmerly took one of Daddy’s lamps made from Baker farm walnut.

Hot & sultry – .9 inch rain early – lightning struck in Wood Valley [Trailer Park across road].
Dave at shop while I went to Altrusa Board Meeting at 11:30. To Home Federal to deposit rent checks & have intgerest updated on CDs – stopped at court house & signed Marion County 1979 History checks – took plantain lily plants to Cottrells. Stopped to see mother.

At 2:30 to styling salon for my wash, cut & set. Marsha had her son Johnny there – 16 & he talked with Dave about fishing. Dave likes hair cut Marsha gave him ($5.50) & says he doesn’t mind going back there. He is becoming less antagonistic about everything and accepting suggestions much better – Even said “I found it much easier to find things in my room when I keep it cleaned up”!

Bought 12’x4’ outdoor carpeting for screen porch $30 + 10 for cement.

Mary & Ken out to look at old papering board but decided can’t repair. Gave Ken the shadow box I bought at Zoar to repair

To Zoar & Don Shuster’s with Mary & Ken & Bernard & Betty in my car. Mailed corrected blue line proofs to Hubbard Co. after talking with Steve & finding that photo index was done. So now that project is complete except marketing. Book should be delivered about Sept. 7.

Had lunch at Berliner at Berlin after stopping at Holmes Co. courthouse & Jane & Sandy’s Store in Millersburg. Zoar building closed on Monday & Tuesday – budget cuts – (last time I was there on Mon & they were closed!) but we enjoyed gardens & bought shadow box pictures from from antique store. Got to Shuster’s about 4:30 & gabbed for an hour. Tom’s business is computer systems! Sure wish David could link up. Tom’s son – Kurt – age 15 just biked from New Castle Del. to San Francisco – camping out. Judy’s daughter Jane & son Andy just back from Taiwan & Bob is medical officer on US Navy ship in Indian Ocean. Home at 9 – Supper in Mt. Vernon. We have a way to go but I feel progress each day. Gain more than lose.

David up & gone to shop before I woke up at 9:00. Did payroll on our computer & worked A/P program with new material received. Year end report shows $10,000+ profit and $15,000 in cash reserves. Equity $81,000 corrected for loan due me.

Repaid Howard the $1,500 I borrowed to makle up the $12,000 for 2 acres across the road.
Dave painted the old bookcase shelves we found in Daddy’s workshop.

In at 5:00 – picked David up at shop – Helen Romine didn’t show up at Turroff’s. David back to shop after eating & we went to see mother. Mary had cleared out a bookcase for Dave that meets Howard’s approval. (He didn’t want us to use the one Dave painted.)

Looked through Dave’s science notebook from last year. Had excellent grades but so sloppy. He spent most of day playing with his things David brought from Don’s last night.

Dave finished cycling front bank while I set out daylilies Mary gave me- left over from what Dr. Ginn gave her. Howard put the hose away twice while I was trying to water.

Rhett Paulus stopped by to pick up real estate sign. Murphys are putting rest of farm up for sale $144,000 for 50 acres. Rhett says too much. N. C. Bank holdup now on my deed. Talked to Rhett about mother’s house & commercial possibilities with Mary K. Mills property next door.

David called – will be up Sunday night. 2nd computer not in yet.

Put flea powder on cat & washed all Dave’s bedding.

Howard upset because Dave used high speed on mower last night. So I asked him to instruct him on the yellow mower. Davie used it to finish across road. As he ate lunch looking that way he said “It makes me feel good I made it look so nice over there – But I don’t like to sweep kitchen” – referring to my lesson & his reluctant (to put it mildly) complying.

Joan & Dal Dalrymple out. Concerned about birch trees. Gave Dal some books & he’s all thrilled about pruning & spraying.

Worked on genealogy – getting family group sheets filed in notebooks.

Worked with Howard weeding the nasturtium bed at driveway entrance. Over to Reece’s to get milk & flea powder for cat. Talked to Mrs. Caldwell at May’s Hardware. She had cataract removed & an implant – Says not as frightening to her as having teeth cleaned! Her store is getting bare – must not be restocking (got the flea powder at Reece’s) Stopped at Thew Cemetery to check Henry Hatfield grave d. 1847. Nothing has been done to put the tombstones back that someone toppled early May. Looks like they had to have mechanical means to move such heavy stones.

Thursday eve. Dave mowed acrosss road between road & gravel. Used light mower as he didn’t know how to start the old yellow one.
