Trella Hemmerly – 1976-05-10

Monday, May 10, 1976 great crested flycatcher, photographed baby barred owl in bushes beyond second bridge.
Nell in to get things off cabinet shelves & packed so expansion can start.
Barry in to pick up check but didn’t offer to deliver even when he saw how busy we were. Also told me he was quitting! Bob in to help move so he & I were delivery with Laura taking hospital.
Ball game at Pleasant High School – Hemmerly’s vs. WDIF – Laura pitched. We lost 31 to 14! Came in & got 25 hamburgers & took them to Cheryl’s where our “team” had refreshments. Photgraphed Killdeer on nest.

Sunday, May 9, 1976 Mothers Day
Birding AM – Baby owl showed in nest hold in sycamore west of pond – bluebird, Tennessee & Myrtle Warblers, gold finch. To Mrs. Wait’s woods – Trilliums all pink. To Kathi’s for brunch waffles – Mary & Rocky lvg for Texas later today. All stopped at shop. Sold $38 stuff before we could get the door locked. Saturday, May 8, 1976 temp 35 AM & 65 PM Sunny.
In at 9 & Loren had delivery lined up for Barry. Jim & Russ & Richard Straub got deliveries out but designers didn’t finish orders until 5 PM – and we didn’t take any orders all day. Told people to come in.
Really a mad house – picking up flowers for 3 proms. Both refrigerators full. Belle’s truck lost wheel in Mansfield & didn’t get in until 5:00. Laura held Prospect yellow roses order until delivery left & then made them to Barry & then Barry forgot to deliver them in Prospect! Finished funeral work about 6:30 & home by 7:30.

Phones ringing constantly all day. Bob helped line up deliveries. Barry and Russ delivering & sent Bob on one west.
Got 3 large pizzas in for supper & we all went to new show room to eat & relax. Lillian brought pies.
Corsage dept really snowed under with 3 proms + Mother’s Day. Found Debbie wiring & taping roses instead of using flocked wire & she would not change. Dave was turning out 6 arrangements while Martha did 2. I left at 12 & Dave, Laura & Connie & Deb still working.

Mrs. Jones here to clean. Even with the good new window cleaner she leaves them streaked. In to shop to pick up arrangements etc.
Felt terrible all day with headache – dragging. Nell [Bryant]came out about 5 to help get ready, but I had tables ready. Rested for 15 minutes before 18 of the flower arranging class arrived for pot luck. Gave them their certificates & they evaluated course. Everyone gave me an excellent rating!
