Trella Hemmerly – 1976-05-30

Sunday, May 30, 1976 – rained 1 1/4″ last night
Set out seeling dahlias, petunias & zinnias around patio area.
At 1:00 went to Caledonia dressed in my blue calico sesqui-centennial dress to meet Marge Williams & ride on Carl Lehner’s 1935 Buick truck for the Memorial Day parade. Holly Baker – the speaker rode with us, but we left. When I got home Bill & Erma & their friends Bill & Virginia Buell from Pa. here. Toured the garden & had tea on the deck.
Bob, Kathi & kids out & showed Bob’s slides. Some very good flower closeups.

Saturday, May 29, 1976
No bigh rush for Memorial Day. Kept Steve hopping on deliveries. I went on church run to show him.
Stopped at Dan Days to get correct cookbook for microwave oven.
Spent afternoon filling out Dept. of Labor form. EPS-1 – 6 pgs. 3,000 questions on our pension plan. Had to go to library to make copy. Wrote letter explaining our plan & also a letter to congressman Brown protesting paper work.
Took delivery to Jerry Head & she took me through her $150,000 house (my estimate – maybe low!)

Friday, May 28, 1976 Took microwave oven in to be repaired.
Bob helped stuff statements. Pitney Bowes machine broke down while doing —
Got pegboard for walls at Wolohans – 3 pcs $24. Tooke delivery to Chapel Heights Cemetery with Steve. Prom kids in all day for corsages & nosegays & boutinierres. Mary brough Mother in & got geraniums for our grandparents & Rocky’s parents’ graves. Stopped at their house to see cacti they collected. Really an interesting group from Texas. Pizza at Kathi’s. When my drink was gone I tried Davy’s can but none left but Kristi passed her glass over for me to tke some. So thoughful.

Thursday, May 27, 1976 Saw Gen Kilbury at Hall-Beck & took her home.
After Butch Sawyer from Hall Beck gave me a $565 bid for 14′ of prefab movable walls Martha came up with pegboard fastened to steel shelving & covered with Burlap which will cost less than $100 & be better. Bought Kathi a desk ($143), 2 filing cabinets ($185) & 2 desk chairs $300.
Took Steve with me for 7 Marion Cemetery deliveries. Made up 4 more combination pots. Decided on Old English letters for “Hemmerly’s” on front of building.
Mary & Rocky got back from Texas trip about 2:30. Had supper with Kathi & Bob & Bob came out to out new socket in microwave oven still not working.

Wednesday, May 26, 1976 Microwave oven has no start button that I can find.
Putting shake shingles on Mansard. Painter getting walls done. Connie in Bridal Page pictures for the Star. Signed 11 wk contract with Dave Hollenbach’s Audio Visual for 30 second telecast in color $280. Got my desk rubbed with Watco Oil Finish & drawers in. Visited Laura at Community Hospital. Dave there at same time. She has bronchial pneumonia. Hired Emma Riddle on trial basis for telephone. Terra told Kathi & me she was quitting. Her husband has a good job. We asker her to consider half days. Dick Barnhard found Oat drape would be $622 instead of $400 so we’re reconsidering panels.

Pat O’Hara from Smoot Roush & Manter in to get our new accntg system set up. Furniture (sofa and love seat) arrived from Pennys. $421. Moved my desk to my office & refinished it with oil finish. Carpenters started Mansard roof on front of building. Two wedding appointments in new wedding room. Grocery shopped for mother & took them to her. She still having swollen feet problems.
Bought GE Microwave oven at Dan Day’s closing out sale $266 – Reg. $400.

Monday, May 24, 1976
David showed me yard which he has “tilled” & “mulched”. Has problem with yellow sedge. Has lettuce, turnips ready in his 2×4 garden. I stopped at Swallens on way home for film & couldn’t resist nursery bargains. Bougth 4 hollies at $2.25 each, Red Haven Peach tree. At Natorp’s got an Alaskan fern & and Exbury Azalea ($10.45). At shop by 2. Kass using new phone area & Kathi’s desk moved to her office. Supper at Ponderosa. Howard in bed when I got home. Evening cool.
Kathi, Bob & kids got back from visiting Bob’s folks in Memphis about 1:30 last night. Had stopped at Hemmerly’s in Nashville.

Trella Hemmerly – 1976-05-23

Sunday, May 23, 1976 iris blooming
Worked around yard with Howard until 12 & got started to Cincinnati after visiting Mother. Arrived about 4:15. Played with Sarah & then to take her to Grandma Meisters while we met David for “Hamburgers” ($2.50 style) at The Rookwood Pottery which is a restaurant. Then to Playhouse in the Park for “Where’s Charley”. David playing 9 performances a week all of May. Band is under the stage.
Very good – costuming great. At home Dvid showed footage of “Marion 1976”.

Saturday, May 22, 1976
Breakfast & David Bratten & Vivian Adams off for Xenia & Cincinnati.
Jim Schultz in for morning delivery. Steve in at noon. I went on Prospect delivery with him to show him about church vases. – Had weeings at First United Church of Christ & Wesley United Methodist & St. Marys.
Up to see mother. Had gotten prescription for water pills that Dr. Olson left. Was $10. She wanted me to take half of them back.

Friday, May 21, 1976
Slept in – Vivian did laundry. Brunch of waffles & bacon. Took them to Beers about 1 & I went to shop. They came in about 4:00 and toured the “mess” & then went to mother’s. She greeted them with “Now I know how little you think of me. You’ve been here all this time before you come to see me.” Didn’t even say hello first. David & I went out & got chicken, hamburgers & took them back to eat with her. I cleaned around her work table. Was filthy. Home & showed slides.
