Howard suggested we put tomatoes & peppers on bank above where the locust tree was cut – neara greenhouse. So while he did that I clearned top of bank & planted rows of red & white petunias for stripes & a group of blue petunias to make a “flag” for the bicentennial. Set out hosta in forsythia areas in woods. Baked chicken for birthday supper for Howard & Bob & set out petunias & impatiens in front of front porch while Mary, Rocky & Mother watched. Picnic supper on deck & Mary made good homemade ice cream.

Howard showed me baby Carolina wrens in shack. Mother wren feeding them in & out the door. Took baby fox squirrel to back acres & set free. To site of historic bridge that is being moved from Espyville Rd. Talked to Mr. McClaren. Napped. Picnic supper inside. Mary made ice cream. Mother cole slaw. Kathi cake, devilled eggs, baked beans. She tells me we need more help & pay those we have more. Kathi says everyone in the shop has gripes & I give them no leadership. Resents my getting $24,000 a year, forgetting my time & money invested.
