David went to market early to stock case. Karen, Sarah & I had leisurely breakfast and when he came back we went to get his Mazda & then downtown to Chinese Restaurant “Yum Yum” for dinner. Entertained of “Jaway” – the proprietors 5 yr old – (Koey?) adorable. Drove over new bowstring bridge across Ohio & followed Rt 8 to its end along the river W. Orchards & hills & cattle farms. Visited Big Bone State Park, but museums closed.

Hated to wake up to the election finals – Carter-Mondale elected – and Jay Howser & Mary Ellen Withrow for Co. Treasurer. Don’t mind her getting it.
Shop had a wonderful lunch for me – Lillian had fixed it all – sloppy joes, potato salad, cake, etc. I took my date pudding in that I overbaked. Left at 3 for Cincinnati & Karen had a good dinner. Quiet evening at home. Slept on new sofa in basement instead of living room as I usually had.

Voted with voting machines at Caledonia Elementary School – for Ford-Cole, of course. Frances Roush for County Treasurer, George Snyder (whom I don’t know over Jay Howser who I do know!)
To Mary’s for supper. Mother there too & as we settled down to watch election returns the Ruel Sutherlands came in selling Tupperware & monopolized the evening. Carter ahead from the beginning. Waited until 11:30 hoping Ford would pick up more big states – but no conclusive when I left.

Slow Sat. Jim Schultz great on delivery. Laura off, but Cheryl doing well enough to get the work out. Once wedding at St. Mary’s. Wrote checks for all Sept bills & don’t think we will be overdrawn. Home at 5:30 & wore new dress with red washable wool sweater Kathi gave me for my birthday (It’s from Canada) & was ready when Brooks & Jordans picked me up to have dinner at the Inn for my birthday. It’s in the country E of Mt. Gilead & delicious food but we were only ones there! Back here for political talk.

Moved pine cones onto shelving that Isabelle cleaned of spring artificial. Nice to know they will stay there since Martha isn’t here to move everything I place. Sis in & she will work Thanksgiving & Christmas. Took odds & ends of artificial things to Gen Kilbury who makes gorgeous wreaths of them. To hospital to see Jessie [Loren Baker’s wife] and she was sitting up in bed & seemed real pert! Says she’ll go home next week. Bought grey pinstripe jumper dress at Suttons. My birthday present to me $54. Russ Cramer in to deliver. Barry on trip to Atlanta. I took late delivery. Worked on Historical Society records tonight.

Thursday, October 28, 1976 Sunny, cold – high 42, low 20
Worked in greenhouse sorting, discarding, consolidating to accommodate outdoor plants Howard had moved to garage. Now I can get my car in.
Took nap in PM. Wrote my ideas on what should be included in “Cost of Goods Sold” for Pat O’Hare’s OK to implement into our accounting.
