Trella Hemmerly – 1976-12-06

Monday December 6th 1976
I called Kathi tonight and found that Don married a First Lieutenant Rita from Wright-Patt Friday. She didn’t want Shorty there because her folks couldn’t come from Missouri. But I think everyone relieved it wasn’t Inge.
Very busy at shop and Nelly Kline and Laura off. Took Christmas letter to Bernard Brooks at Hall-Becks. Rosina’s cancer is in liver too – started chemotherapy and she’s very sick with it.
Two wedding appointments. Watched “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” – Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner on TV

Sunday December 5th 1976
Howard and I drove to Foertsch’s just east of liru and selected growing Scotch pine which Mr. Foertsch cut. $8. Stopped at Mason’s and got outdoor miniature lights as we plan to put it on the deck. Shopped at Kroger’s and then home for city chicken for supper. Didn’t get cookies baked but did finish Christmas letter and Marion County Historical Society minutes.

Dave is getting into the same habit that Martha had. Whenever I correct anyone’s mistake he finds an excuse for them.
Jim Schultz delivered for Barry and it was a relief to have him just take the deliveries without complaining. Looks like I need some conferences.
Did Pat Lichtenberger wedding at Waldo and took Prospect delivery at 7:30. Had wedding at First United Methodist with aisle candelabra. Supper at Ponderosa they now have an area for non-smokers. Watched “The Moneychangers” on TV

Visited Rosina [Brooks] at hospital. She’s up & chipper. Dr. says they’ll start chemotherapy tomorrow.
Took terrarium to Quest Club C’mas party as my “homemade” gift. Got the caramels Lela Brookshire made & shared them with Mildred Sheutzer [?] Lenore Bondley showed some of her dolls – reproductions that she has dressed. Exquisite.
Cliff Mitchell brought in black & white pictures he developed & printed. Some very good.

Breakfast as disaster. Forgot to turn up heat on waffle iron – couldn’t make syrup right consistency & Lawson’s bacon had a funny taste! Then David’s car wouldn’t start. Got gas & fuel line unfrozen & pushed him & it went!
He stopped at shop for Directors meeting check.
Kass asked for conference. Wanted me to be aware that Connie & her “cowboy” from Kenton may be getting serious.
2 wedding appointments & they both on December 26!
To Madge Gutheries for Blotter make up & she served us dinner! Shopped for Davy horseshoe set.

David & Karen left Cincinnati at 6 to be at Dentist here at 9. We took Dave Woessner to lunch with us as our new Board Member. But his thinking is so superficial I’m afraid he just is not management oriented. At shop until 3:30 when I came home & fixed turkey casserole for supper. Mother, Mary & Rocky here too.
Then showed the Marion 1976 movie & read script I had written. David will edit down to 45 minutes.

Trella Hemmerly – 1976-11-28

Sunday, November 28, 1976 Hemmerly Open House
Cloudy & temp 38 till 4:30.
In at 10:30 & still some setting up to do, but Hemmerly’s never looked better. We were mobbed by over 1,200 people. Mother handed out calendars from the wedding room door (did this to routepeople to see our offices) but she didn’t like being “back in a corner,”
Staggered hours to cut down on overtime. Gave away 1200 calico canes, 1,000 calendars & 8 door prizes. At 4:30 it started snowing & the crowd dwindled. TOok me 30 minutes to drive home on icy roads. Home by 6:30.
