Enjoyed a day at home all day. Dave & I worked on “scalping” the front lawn. He wants to make a putting green.

Wrote letters to kathi – Uncle Allen, Florence Robinson (Union County Genealogical Society) & the Corwins who gave program at MCHS meeting.

Did more filing & sorting getting my office straightened out for use.

Worked in my room sorting and filing. Balanced check book.

Dave & I picked Mother up about 6 & drove to Jackson Center area to return thermos bottle that June Messenger Hemmerly left at reunion. Showed me through their 4 year old house. Very homey & convenient. Then over to Fanny & Floy’s for a few minutes. Mother not out of car as it took 2 aides to lift her in and out at Marion Manor. Beautiful evening but of course Mother wanted to go home to Mary’s and not back to the Manor and it was very difficult for me. Told me “You should have MADE me go to your house when you wanted me to come.”

Howard trimmed some of the hemlock up about 5 ft in order to cut them down. But found that each tree had from 2 to 4 trunks & they are quite picturesque so decide to leave them. Will leave the west end of the bed go as it to protect from wind & noise. It is about 10’ high.

Started “scalping” the front lawn as it is all ground ivy, violets & coarse grass over “thatch”.

Rain 1 ¼’
In to shop to meet David. Talked with Judy & she mentioned no problems. I was concerned with at $6,000 item in shop supplies for June. That category doesn’t run $600 all year! No one else had questioned it.

To Quest Club luncheon and for part of Marguerite Martin’s “Hummel” talk. Hated to leave but had to go to Marion Manor with David to see mother. She was almost in hysterics because they won’t come when she signals. She messed the bed. Could hardly get her to walk to bathroom. They had a diaper on her that was falling off. Such inhumanity. I told Mary that genealogy trip was a week earlier but she feels she should have her choice of time even tho I’ve paid my deposit. So I won’t go.

Dave & I mowed lawn between showers. Bob Stout called saying Don will only pay $150. Will subpoena Hemmerly’s records to show what Kathi gets! Figured Dave’s expenses – 41 days $261. Not including air fare or bicycle.

Dave let me sleep and off to school on his own. Persuaded Howard to let me trim along the river with the mower. What’s the use living by a river if you can’t see it? When Dave came home he helped me cut the weeds along the east edge of the pond. Sure looks better but I’m exhausted.

He wanted to go to town to get folders for school. Stopped at shop and copied letters received by MCHS asking for genealogy help. To Manor – mother in wheelchair in living room asleep. Had eaten in dining room. Had her dress unbuttoned & in her rambling cold see that in her mind it represented freedom. So pathetic – didn’t sleep – uncomfortable. Nurses don’t come when she needs them, but Mary White says she will adjust.

Had pizza at Godfathers $8.30. Then shopping. Left the letters at Genealogy Society Meeting but too tired to go. Saw Pat Winn. She said Washington dates are October 3 thru 9.

David called. Coming up tomorrow to run payroll. Then Kass called. Wants to talk with me. Set up next Tues. for lunch here.

Up at 6:30 to get Dave off on the 7:20 bus for his first day of school at River Valley – freshman.
In to Mary’s at 10 after writing story of MCHS meeting & leaving at Star.

She had Mother’s things ready for the move to Marion Manor. Went in my car. Mrs. Kelley – receptionist & Mary White, Director of Nursing very helpful but mother and I concerned that she has no access to a window. Her chair not comfortable & the bed table not suitable in front of her chair. Sure hated to leave her there. And pay $1,100 a month. Her money at that rate will last about 5 years.

Made meat loaf & baked potato & had it ready when Dave got home. Two girls he had previously known are also freshmen – Barb Greshaber & Heather Griffith. He brought home algebra & got it done quickly.

Dave & I in to shop to meet David & Johnny who works for him at market. I picked Mary up & we went to see Dr. Whitehead for Mother’s admittance papers to Marion Manor. To Manor to see Mother’s room & fill out papers.

Back to shop – Took David & Johnny to Isaly’s for lunch while Dave got haircut at Razor’s Edge – $4.50. Then out to Terradise for about an hour. David wanted Johnny to see it. Took them back to shop & I met Dan Harriman at Warner Warehouse & he confirmed that the Treasurer’s Duplicates we have been storing are the same records the Auditor’s Office are storing at Coliseum & so can be destroyed. Went to Coliseum & confirmed this. So that would leave only 2 pallets.

Home & ate the macaroni & chees Dve prepared. Picked up Mary Brocklesby & went to MCHS meeting. All clapped on hearing we had won the award for “Best County History”. Installed officers Richard Bryson, Pres. David Corwin program on their log cabin.

Utterly exhausted from cooking & picking up after Dave all day. He took Bill across the river & then walked from Boger’s line up the river so all clothes (including tennis shoes with spiked bottoms filled full of mud) had to be washed. Told him not to go in river again but after supper they did.

I went to Mt. Gilead to an auction (got there too late for bookcase & filing cabinet for Society) and as I came back he was riding his bike in the middle of the road with his head down coming up the hill S of the bridge on 746. I saw his red cap just in time to slam my brakes on. Bill was along side as he should be. Later I had to stop him from making bill ride down the front bank by the flowering quince. No way he could keep from going in the road & no was he could see if it was clear. I set a midnight bed time & refused to let them go out after dark. After I went to bed I smelled matches burning. They were lighting “pocket rockets” in the living room. I blew up & made him call Kathi & tell her what he did. Of course I can’t sleep after all that! Had to stop him from nailing up a “Keep Out” sign on the 2 acres across the road. Had not asked permission. Couldn’t understand why I didn’t want to antagonize neighbors.
