Thursday February 24th 1977 – 50037 River flooding from Ice jams.
Cleane living room. Finished packing. Cooked wieners and sauerkraut and potatoes for lunch.
Barry stopped for plants on way to Timson-Allen.
Ran along the road some to increase stamina.
Big ice sheet ready to float out of pond.
Carroll Neidhart called saying post office was in Masonic temple from 1903 to 1910. Played him Carl Rieger’s tape about sandstone blocks from 2nd court house being behind a house on farming Street.

Trella Hemmerly – 1977-02-23

Wednesday February 23rd 1977 I 60 degrees
Got fold-up suitcase, money belt and cosmetic bag from Ambassador.
Cheryl finished billing accounts receivable are $22,000 finished up odds and ends. Not too busy.
Shopped at Frank’s for bras and cotton PJs. Up to mothers. She couldn’t find Philippine itinerary- said she had never seen it. Found it under blotter. Offered to take her for a ride in the nice weather. She refused.
Took Mary Jordan to dinner at Brown House. Rosina back in the hospital. Mary says she has memory lapses. We went shopping for jeans. Enjoyed being with her.
Highway Department cut huge oak on Brocklesby Farm. I got a quarter section to count rings.

Gary Oehler- salesman for Aldick and others at shop from 11 to 4. Very tiring. Also Frankoma salesman and David Caveda from Davidson-Uphoff. We’re
Letter from Kathi.
To Altrusa dinner. Mary White gave me her brother’s address in Manila.
Jeanette Layman in and said Hazel Chase broke her hip and she’ll also have to have other one operated on if she makes it.
Found letter mother wrote to Marjorie Patterson about the hurricane story and got it sent to Marjorie. I had looked for a week. Found it by coat rack!

Monday February 21st 1977
David up about noon to pick up horn at Erickson’s and notes I’ve made for “Marion 1976” script.
Pat O’Hara in with January reports- lost $1,600.
Got desk cleaned off. To camera club meeting. Got 14 rolls high-speed Ektachrome film. Dallas Jackson a riot with his mispronunciation and view from every angle. Yucatan area and Mayan ruins.

Friday February 18th 1977 lo17 I 33
2 wedding appointments. Unpacked Capco shipment. Ned cook from wmrn in and gave him copy through April 12th. Dave foot in St Patrick’s Windows. Got display cloth at fabric shop.
Had to pick up Betty peace at Mary Cooper’s funeral and take it in and redo it. She said it was ugly! Had all white mums.
To Bill and Erma’s for delicious dinner. Took to pretzel pie that Caroline Hittenrauch baked for me from Altrusa promise tree. Bill showed English trip slides. Rose shows, Gardens. Their neighbor Naomi Hobe over. They were burning their “grate-o-lator.”:

Trella Hemmerly – 1977-02-17

Thursday February 17th 1977 low 2 -high 26
Cleaned camera equipment and binoculars. Got clothes out for trip.
Took Howard out to see snow. It’s rolled up long north-south roads like huge cotton bats. Higher than I can reach and that after 4 days of melting. Called at Timson-Allen for Mary Cooper. Midwest average January temperature was 11 degrees. Coldest ever recorded since 1758.1856 next coldest 12 degrees.
My gas bill was $93 but I don’t think meter was read.
Walked in the woods on top of the snow! When I broke through it was to my knees. David called saying he’ll be up next Monday.
