Trella Hemmerly – 1980-11-03

Monday November 3rd
65 today with $675 a month awaiting me in Social Security. But as Daddy used to say “I have a tiger by the tail” -maybe in a year!
Kathy called at 8:45 5:45 her time to wish me happy birthday. Howard had completed the spiderweb cane seat in the German chair for me. And Rodger had my breakfast ready at the table. At the shop had a pair of ceramic turkeys made by and from no and a cake saying 65 from the shop gang and a gray sweater. They had also borrowed Dave wesner’s track sweater that had a 65 on it to give as a joke.
Bill & Erma’s for a delicious supper. Irma had made a calico kitten for me and Bill gave me tomatoes and squash. Genealogy. Bill has worked up great photo albums and written much about Farm life and his home. Home about 11
Not even a birthday card from David and Karen. Guess he thought coming up last week was my birthday remembrance.

Trella Hemmerly – 1980-10-30

Thursday October 30th
To Worthington to look at upholstery fabric in larger pieces. Found a textured velvet at $22.90 a yard in “saddle” that seems more right than the velvets I’ve been looking at.
On to John Belli’s wholesale house north of Westerville. His driver told us Saturday that John is going out of business after 10 years. John showed me his financial statement. On $800,000 sales he lost $36,000! He hopes to get in at Engels as Cut Flower manager. I bought about $2,000 at 30% discount but his prices were high to start with 40% discount on case lots.
Home at 2:30 lunch with Howard and David’s pork barbecue and Long Island coleslaw. At 5 Mary and Kenny and Mary and Carl picked me up driving Hecker’s new Pontiac LeMans. To Lexington to Smorgasbord. Everything delicious and we all ate too much.
Home about 8. Showed slides of my Connecticut trip.
Mary and Kenny gave me a “Big Boggle” and Mary and Carl gave me book of poems.
