Trella Hemmerly – 1980-11-21

Friday November 21st
Charlie Dunn in with a buy/sell plan for Hemmerly’s whereby the corporation takes out a policy on me (premium about $500 a month) that on my death pays for my stock to my heirs by buying my shares (which becomes treasury stock) and pays for them with the insurance proceeds. Then their 50 shares each represent the total value of Hemmerly’s and they can then sell for whatever they can get. Sounds too good to be true but the catch is in the $500 a month premium.
Robert Middleton died. Mother cannot remember relationships and when I try to explain that he was her cousin Marjorie Maskill Middleton’s son she can’t follow my explanation.
Terry delivered all day in a red jogging suit. Something has to be done about his appearance.
Lillian found she has a cataract developing in her good eye. The other one is a lazy eye.

Thursday November 20th
Baked sugar cookies. Made meatloaf and lima bean casserole.
Gladys and Orlie Mosier out with chair for Howard to cane.
Picked Erma Hutchman up to go to style show at Palace- lots of gorgeous styles- sat beside “Ed” from Russia- an engineer at Marion Power Shovel. Can’t figure out what he was doing at a style show!
Picked up photos I took of Aunt Lillie’s funeral and the Lady Justice return.

Tuesday November 18th
Called Mary Jordan- has 13 stitches on cheek and sore all over. Nancy still in the hospital. Mary lost control on a hill and car went into an embankment. $2,000 damage to car.
Ate at Turroff’s with Helen Romine before going to Marion County Historical Society board meeting. Couldn’t believe they actually discussed moving “store” from Central Soy property when I gave them the $6,000 moving cost. I suggested we needed long-range planning for a secretary and an office.

First snow! A wet 3” all day from 11 a.m. Howard had planted tulips and daffodils early a.m.
Took $2.85 to Wendy’s Hamburgers to pay for my dinner Saturday night when I didn’t have any money with me. Ate there and then to mothers. Call came trying to find out where Carl Jordan was as Mary Jordan had been in accident in Mount Gilead. He had gone to Galion with Mary and to get Kenny’s hat he left there Saturday. Mary brought home later with 13 stitches on cheek.
To Camera Club. Jim Hill good program on history of photography. No images ever made before 1839

Saturday November 15th
To court house at 9 to watch Lady Justice put on top of Dome. Found after missing for 28 years Mike Griffith spent 600 hours restoring it.
Priced, stacked and stocked Indiana glass shipment of 45 cases with Terry’s help. About $600 glassware.
Stopped at Wendy’s for supper and after I had ordered discovered that I had no money! $2.85 they told me to bring it in next time I was around.
Home and rested bathed at 8:30 picked up Pete & Kass Mattimore to go to Scantland’s party to introduce their new building [WDIF Stuios] on East Center across from Denzer’s. Very modern and plush but so much wasted space!
Good buffet- socialized with lots of people and was nice to have Pete take my coat and bring me drinks. Home by 11.
