Randy Huffman called – No response from Don Decker so will file for hearing.
Tried to call mary at Coral Motel at 9:30 (7:30 there) but they had gone.

Call from Kathy Griffiths at Community Nursing Home that they have a room with a window available for mother. So went to see it – Nice – much roomier – but toilet further from bed – view toward Ponderosa Steak House – nice enclosed patios. Chairs more comfortable and she can have her own. When I went to Marion Manor to see her she was sound asleep in bed. Mary White said she could have bed by window in room with 3 other women so we woke her & I took her to see it. Hard for her to talk (Has she been tranquilized?) Not sure she understood she could be moved but kept saying “This place is not fit for a dog (or pig)” They won’t hold room til Saturday when Mary gets home.

Got my driver’s license renewed. Fixed chicken noodles for supper. Dave excited because he asked Sheila Jacquart for a date next Sat (16) & she said yes! Can’t find them in phone book. Uncle Allen called & his bank thinks it would be better if we had the Hildreth Book Account here in Ohio where most of the books will be sold – Fine with me. Just didn’t want Allen to feel left out.

Cooked all morning – broccoli quiche & zucchini bread 7 a pork roast for tonight.

Bob & Elsie Sands arrived about 3:30 & with Dave we all went in to see Mother. Having her supper in room. Not sure she knows who the Sands were. Stopped at shop & Harding Memorial & drove them through Chateau Ridge to see where Kathi had lived in my houses.

Bob Sr. talks to himself all the time & I could see Bob Jr. in him – actions, expressions. He has a “hang dog” expression that Bob doesn’t. Got both Bob & Elsie’s genealogy – and with it Bob’s background. Mother died, raised by grandparents. Uncle beat him – father came occasionally & gave them $5, he ran easy, etc.

Gave them my bedroom & I slept on living room sofa.

Put up forms & poured concrete for new sewage system across road. Still pumping out the old filter bed. New concrete area is about 75×75’.

Sands left about 9 – I took them over to Rt. 95 and headed them East.

Called Steve White & asked that extra 18 books be given to us to distribute to 18 libraries. Then found in letter from Allen that pages 72&73 -Pierce & Goff families had been messed up. Not our fault as the index is right. Mentioned this when I confirmed library offer by letter.

Down to see Mother – hadn’t eaten her lunch so I fed her some. Have her eating in her room now/.

Picked up Edith Keeler – Her 85th birthday is tomorrow. Took her to shop – drive past Claridon Prairie on way to Terradise. Difficult for her to walk but she enjoyed flowers. Had the broccoli quiche, fruit salad & zucchini bread for supper. Took her home – I’m exhausted from being with the Sands & her – All a little difficult to communicate with.

Mary called. They are in El Paso, Tex. weill be at Carlsbad tomorrow.

Got house ready for visit of Bob & Jean Ebert & Evanine Kirby – Bob’s sister. They were neighbors on Ballentine Ave – 1927-1930. We went to a party together about 1929 and daddy said I had to be home by 9 (!!). So Bob walked me home – amidst my protests and said “I feel for you but can’t reach you” – I thought that was terribly sophisticated.

Bob has been an engineer in Cleveland area since about 1943 – designed equipment & with a coal handling firm now on a “consulting” basis after “retiring”. Very sharp & good looking yet. He was my “crush” when I was Dave’s age now.

Served home baked apple pie. Jean is pianist – They have 2 children & have started a concert series in Chesterland. Have 1 ½ acres there. Really enjoyed their visit.

Loaded up projector slides & screen for talk on “Terradise Grows” at Johnny Ashworth’s home on Uhler Rd. for Town & Country Garden Club. My first meeting as a new member. Club offered to landscape MCHS Center as their project. Left Hildreth book for Lewis Ashworth to look at. He worked with Allen at Metropolitan.
