High 45!
Home all day – Hallelujah!
Too cold to mow lawns in Marion. So Mary & Kenny came out about 3:30 & we bagged 37 bags of Eber Baker Beans. Had spaghetti & sauce for supper for them. Dave angry at me because I half promised to go to Mt. Gilead to see E.T. & was too late. (and too tired) to go when we finished beans.

Worked all morning getting Hildreth Genealogies sorted by number for easy selling & composed letters to 3 cousins descendant from Lucy Hildreth Sheneman. Am sending them the book with option to return.

Mary helped me move hibiscus, bougainvillia, podocarpus, etc. in as it is cold!

Mary will give $25 toward light fixtures.

Met Ellen Pratt at Center & got invitation letter tpo members ready & mailed them. Called Dorothy Harper to tell her we had $225 for fixtures. She will help me pick them out. Dave slept until noon & met me at MCHS Center at 1:00 to clean back room & moved things so we could get the Courthoooks moved in there. Still working when Dick Bryson brought John K. Bartram in to see Center. Made my pitch – looking to Henry True’s Trust.

To Sears to look at light fixtures. Found markdown for $60 with 5 “Tiffany” globes.

3 appointments with bank presidents with Dick Bryson. 10:00 Waldeck – Fahey Bank – 1:30 Donithen at Marion Federal & 4:00 Jim Waddell at Home Federal. Federal and Home Federal are merging so may get some office equipment. Joe also one of trustees for True Trust so may get some there – all the others have to work into next year’s budget.

At Bob Stout’s office to look over court entry to file as don has not agreed to custody change. Tried to reach Don for one last try but he’s on leave until Monday.

To DAR meeting as guest – program on what DAR is & how to become one. Madge Guthery also there and told her of need for light fixtures before dedication so she gave $100 toward them & Peg Rinker who had started it by saying she would give gave $125.

Worked in Recorder’s Office getting info on ownership of our lot. Cannot find transfer from Peters to first lot owner.

Mary Brocklesby called saying she has 16mm film of Caledonia in the 20’s that she will loan to MCHS to copy. Mayme Harmon called to be sure Society accepts Town & Country offer to landscape Center. Told her tonight’s meeting is “brainstorming”.

Met Dick at National City Bank at 1:00 to talk to Dale Schmidt – I think we should be asking for specific amounts at specific times.

Picked up Mary B. for board meeting. Very informal. Couldn’t believe my ears when Wayne Harper said he didn’t know what to say when people ask what the MCHS does. I could sure tell them. To me not muc new came up but this is Dick’s “style” to make the members feel “involved.”

To Vornholt to have teeth cleaned. Have chip out of front tooth that must be filled. To shop & found that Judy had referred FTD “Change of Ownership” papers to Fred Blankenship – District FTD rep – How could he know what our internal setup was without conferring with David or me?-
I only learned of this after FTD wrote to Judy 4 times. Finally sent letter addressed to me. David asked Kass if she would manage the shop – leaving Judy to manage design room.

Left shop to go to Coleman’s (Viola Stull) at 2:30 to meet Dan Stull. Bob Haldeman, Edna Kennedy also there. David has nice visit with him last Wed in Cinci & he bought a Hildreth book. Working on Haldeman genealogy & had fantastic book of early Haldeman pictures.

At 3 met Dick Bryson for first “fund raising” visit. This time to Don Gast, president of Bank One. Dick told him “MCHS has come from being a club to an organization.” I never thought of it that way & don’t think it was.

To Altrusa Board Meeting but didn’t stay for meeting – too tired.

To Cols. for meeting of OAHSM Board. Steve White did not ride down with me as he had another meeting after so didn’t talk about mistakes in book. Hubbard will not give us extra 18 books to donate to Museum but will sell them at 10% discount to us.

Hurried back to Marion as David coming up. Put info from “black book” from Shop & found that present markups are as high as 5 times. I kept it at less than 3 times in order to keep customers happy.

To see mother & she is alert enough to know that tomorrow is when Mary will be back. So when they got in about 4:00 and went to see her she couldn’t comprehend what “Mary” it was & told her Mary would be home tomorrow. Mary called me & when I told her about Community Nursing she said I should have moved her. Really unnerved me and I lost control and cried. Partly in relief, I think, that I didn’t have to carry burden alone. They came out and we went over to “Short & Dee’s” for supper. They were having a fish fry for benefit of Caledonia Pool.

So glad Mary is back home.
