Wakened at 8:15 by John Cottrell telling me the books were in town and would need helpers at Marion Towers at 10:30 to help unload. Called shop for Dave Knapp and Terry Zacharias and David and I went in. Each of the 186 boxes weighed 80 lb. Stacked in library of towers and brought about 25 boxes to shop. Freight was $990.
David’s left about 1 but I was so busy I didn’t notice.

Set table in TV room and had dinner ready leftovers from last night with good china and Sterling when David, Karen and kids arrived.
38 here for Carol sing. Eric, Dan and Dick Erickson and David on instruments and Geneva on piano. Bernard didn’t show up to no one’s surprise. Mary Jordan told her “Littlest Angel” story but the 9 kids under 6 weren’t very attentive.
Carroll Neidhardt stayed until 12:45.

Geneva had things well in hand when I got home- ham, cauliflower, green beans, apple salad, cranberry salad, relish tray and as appetizer punch and a cheese ball covered with almonds can look like pine cone.
Served 28 people. Paid Geneva $100. Sang carols.

To Port Columbus by 10:30 and had to go to Columbus Air Freight to pick up the five boxes of “Publishers Samples”. Back to shop by 11:30 and opened box- 6 and 1/2 lb of hard back Brown book 848 pages and Trella H. Romine on the title page as editor! A thrill of a lifetime. Can’t help but wonder if this will be known as the “Romine History” as the 1907 is known as the “Jacoby History”.
Finished packets for people who worked after picking up my letter to them at Quick Print. Had staff move the center display back to the wall for reception tonight. Bought two bottles of champagne for the punch. 46 people came and were so interested in the book they didn’t want cake and punch! Found mistakes- of course. Grand Prairie Grange in twice- Knapp generations confused in title. But everyone complimentary.
Mrs. Jones here cleaning.

Called Judy Cole about noon and found that books left Chester County plant by Roadway Express this morning. Freight only $680 instead of over $1,000!! (Was actually $990).
And Bill Gibson of Taylor called and wanted to know why we hadn’t sent a sales tax exemption form. I told him no one asked me to but got one in mail immediately. Took three notes- MCHS, mine and Phil Boyd to John Cottrell to co-sign and took Phil’s to him.
Sent 2 packages to Kathi UPS for their Christmas.
Took leftover pot roast to mother’s for lunch. Taped our usual type conversation. Tried to tell her what I had been through the last 3 days but it didn’t register. The fact that Vida who stays nightly with her brings her dog was much more important to her.
To Turoff’s for dinner with Heckers and Jordans. Gladys Mosier there. Orley in hospital for heart check-up.

Tuesday December 4th 1979
Waited all day for Neal Kimmel at Taylor Publishing to call me with freight charges on shipment. Finally called him at 5 for Dallas time and he said he thought it had been shipped. Had Judy Cole call me back and she admitted it hadn’t but said she would ship 50 copies air freight so we would have them for Friday night for reception for chairmen. Called Barbara Boggs to tell her party was on and also called board members and Township chairman.
Conferred with Ellen Pratt on publicity.
Phil Boyd brought me check for $1,500 to handle freight & postage charges. No interest loan.
