Kathy placed 8th in the county in the 8th Grade Scholarship tests – but 5th in her class! Darrell Fyffe, Erma Clark, Ronny Lyon & Phyllis Kile above her. Mother & Daddy left for Holland, Michgan to get glad bulbs. At shop – Pythian Sisters corsages & misc. Gave talk tonight to Caledonia Mothers Club at school.

Overslept so didn’t go to Kingwood & Mohican with Alice & Milan. Cleaned house. Hazel & Homer Hufford stopped in. Kathy had her first date – Bob Hill – a Senior!* Double Date to Drive-In with Jim Chapman & Margaret Ann Hinamon. Home at 11 & had the boys in for lunch.

In at 9:00. Total of 250 corsages. Only about 100 on orders – rewst over counter. Everything went smoothly. Bog rain about 4 PM. Fanny cooked for us. Picked David up at Browns about 8:30 & made deliveries in Caledonia. Bed at 11:45. Red orchid blooming. Rocky has Lady Wohr out. [sic?]

Friday, May 6, 1955 [Mother’s Day preparations at Hemmerly’s Flowers]
Kathy & I in at 9:00. Milan Gorby & Erma Hutchman at 1:30. Marilee & Alice later. Did all the orders – about 75 & got cymbids & orchids done. Out home at 5:00 to get David at Baseball practice. He went to Keith Brown’s for the night. Kathy & I home at 10:45.

At shop all day. Made bows & some corsages. Kids in at 4 with Mrs. Williams*. Mary & Rocky worked tonight. Home at 10:30 & finished ironing. To bed at 1:00. Beautiful day high 77.

Off to Canton at 9:30 arriving at 12 to give wildflower talk to Line & Design Garden Club. Young matrons. Well received. $15. Stopped at Kingwood Center in Mansfield. Tulips gorgeous. Fixed porch box with pink geraniums, Purple Prince petunias & vinca & set out phlox [illegible] got me Canton.

Milan Gorby over bird watching. Got another poison ivy shot. Milan & I went across river. Took pictures. White Throated Sparrows plentiful. In with Kathy & got her new shoes $5 & purse $2 & hose $2. Borrowed Daddy’s TDC Projector for tomorrow & Milan & Alice over to see wildflower slides.

Daddy out working on boat & I mowed bottom land & around iris garden. Poison ivy covers left side of face. Eye nearly shut. Got shot from Dr. Axtheml. Milan Gorby & Lockards got plants to set out. I out out tomatoes, cabbage & snaps. Kids over to Gists. Willeys here ordering wedding.

Bill Hutchman, Milan and Alice Gorby, Ranny Williams & Dr. Maag out for birds. I went in at 10:00 to finish wedding. Daddy out here working on boat. To Memorial Plot at 4 for Burroughs Arbor Day Program. Kathy & Darrell Fyffe trupet duet – “Trees”. Family picnic here evening with Aunt Lily & Ruth Ruhlman. Bed 11:00.
