David’s Birthday
Davie in with me. He is 12 today. His dad came up & gave him $5 & me a hot protest on allowing kids as exemption. Got David a chemistry set. Did 2 weddings – Dunn-Suter & big Umbaugh-Hilt. Home & headache.

Friday, January 25, 1957
Worked on statements. Charly Schneider at folks for supper, but we ate at L&K. (David put on a show) & then went to Palace with Mary & Rocky to see Disney “Nature’s Secrets”. To Mary’s after for cake & they gave David an unloading car & truck for his birthday.

Thursday, January 24, 1957
To Shirley’s for hair wash & set. Helen Hanning out to clean but her heart wasn’t in it! Took some snaps of birds at feeder by window. Mother & Daddy out about 4 & Daddy cut logs. They stayed for supper. TV tonight.

Wednesday, January 23, 1957
To school to talk to Kathy’s Biology class about insects. Mr. Pauley was not impressed! Stayed & had lunch with David. Then to work. Wedding appointment at 5:45. Picked Kathy up at Clarks. She had had hair done at Shirleys. Finished see orders. Cold again – about 10.

Tuesday, January 22, 1957
Daddy & Dick Grimm to Engles – Columbus for foliage plants for Mrs. McCorkle so I spent morning delivering. David in with me – touch of flu. Home at 5:30 & river flooding. Tree Daddy cut down Saturday has floated downstream to an ice jam. Helped Kathy with history & [illegible]. Played Scrabble with David.

Monday, January 21, 1957
Some busy – Had Emma Wade for PM. To Annual Meeting of Community Foundation to give Girl Scout report. Hit Jack Maxwell – editor of Marion Star – up for Nature Column job – he said come in & talk. Helped Kathy with insect classification.

Sunday, January 20, 1957
Wonderful day. Read Platt’s “American Trees” & then went out & cut twigs & identified them. Kids to Sunday School & Church. Kathy to Swishers in PM & supper. David & I hiked & skated down river to Smiths. Saw deer tracks & loads of others. Mary & Rocky stopped for snack on way home from Judy. Temp 38. TV & bed 10:30.

Saturday, January 19, 1957
Small wedding at Persingers. Daddy out with David (he spent night with Harry Horton) & sawed down dead tree by shack & at Locust in river. Chopped hole in ice & it’s 7″ thick. Warmed today. Temp above freezing. David & I TV & tried to help Kathy with Julius Caesar. Can’t reach her.

Friday, January 18, 1957
Took feed down in woods for quail.
Somewhat busy at shop. Made garland for Mary Schneider & worked on statements. Kathy to Pleasant game here. Lost both. I worked at desk. Made out budget for ’57 & found that I contributed more to kids than Walt did in ’56 – Wrote him asking for them as exemptions in ’57. Low 5 – high 18.

Thursday, January 17, 1957
Helen Hanning’s car on blink so she didn’t come to clean. I worked all day on kitchen cupboards. Jay Miglore & Chuck Belt home with David to skate. Mrs. Myers sent friend and then came to get Pepi – Pd me the $2 I gave vet to have him wormed. Temp last night -11. Still cold today high 17.
