Saturday September 17, 1960
David took test for Joe Berg foundation (seminar for math & science for exceptional students) AM. Helped me with 2 weddings – got call from school that he had been selected for seminar. Went to meeting for students & parents conducted by Mr. Shapiro of the foundation. Congrats to everyone who made it – So proud of David.

David put 4 bags of Bentonite (AquaGel) on South banks of pond. We hope this will stop the leak we’ve had ever since pond was built.

Monday, May 2, 1960
Got a Riding Mower – Lawn Track 5 1/2 HP 32″ blade. $404 from Montgomery Ward. Dick Grimm got me a discount so it was $364. Howard & David pleased. It even mows the swamp.

Wednesday, September 23, 1959
The telescope* is finished! Went in to Mary & Rocky’s tonight & looked through for first time – Saturn – double stars – nebulae.

[*David built a 6″ reflecting telescope with a lot of help from Mary & Rocky – at their garage. Ground the mirror and built the tube, etc from parts. Later won a superior at the State Science Fair]

Sunday September 13, 1959
Took Kathy to Oxford to start her Miami University Career. Had back of station wagon loaded. Met Jackie Lockwood & Diane Wolfe, her roommates. Lunch in dining room at Stanton Hall. President’s Convocation for parents & home at 9:30. Headache! It’s a good 3 hr. drive there – 165 miles.

June 5, 1959 Kathy’s Graduation from Harding High School
Up at 6:30 so we could get last “Last Day of School” pictures before going to work. Beth Hanning here last night. In at 8: – Baskets made for Sr. Breakfast – Gary Caldwell in to take palm trees for the Sr. Breakfast etc. 2 weddings. 25 or so cosages for Sr. Dance. Claprood late because of breakdown. At 4 Kathy did wedding at Kirkpatrick at 5 I deliverd one to First EUB – Then to Uhlers & got blue linen sheath dress, purse, stole & beads. Supper at mother’s. Howard, Mary & Rocky – folks, David & I to Commencement at Coliseum& Kathy was graduated with 378 others. We did the platform decorations including 384 red & white variegated carnations. Ioegers stopped by with Kathy & Dave before the kids took off for Senior Dance. Howard home with me – his birthday – I gave him Post’s Greenhouse book. Bed 12:00.

Tri-Hi-Y Dance. Kathy working on corsages & wedding – Mrs. Deyson off – Marjorie home. One Grand Madhouse! Home at 8:30. Howard here & watched packing. He home at 10:30. Finished at 12:30.

Kathy & I had dinner with Mary & Rocky at McNews – got film for trip – shopped for Kathy a dress for tomorrow. Got a blue taffeta with “bubble” skirt . Me a huge sport dress. David to Masonic Father Son Banquet with Mr. Patterson. He did not win the Caledonia spelling bee. Rev. Holloway pronounced Arbor – “Aubo”

Thursday, February 19, 1959
Worked all day getting clothes washed, mended, sorted. Grace Taylor cleaning. Took David in after school to get new shoes – good black $10 – play shoes $4 & Romeos [?] $3. We ate at Walgreen & then took him to Coliseum to play in band. Me home to iron. Caledonia stalled Pleasant Score 1-0 Caledonia end of 1st quarter. Pleasant won 33-31.
