Box canyon highlight for me was black headed grosbeaks feeding young. Mt. Adams & Engineer Mt & the Million Dollar Highway spectacular. At Gunnison the desert starts quickly & by Cortez very hot. Visited 4 Corners & enjoyed the trip across Northern Arizona – lonely, colorful & glad for air conditioning. Arrived Deckers about 8:30 & Dave is a doll. Holds bottle by himself & is almost crawling. Big grin – but no teeth.

Lark Buntings in Kansas & Eastern Colorado. Wheat all cut to David’s disappointment. Skyline Drive at Canon City after 2 hrs visit to Estes Industries at Penrose to buy rockets. Quite impressed with Black Canyon of the Gunnison & the San Luis Mountains. At Ouray overnight & went to the theatre to see Melodrama & to a bar for Coors beer & local color.
