Just as Wilda Shuster Sturm’s family were arriving for indoor picnic David called again about house. Bank can only load 17,000 so I told him to contact Home Federal. Good to see Wilda, but Bill very uncommunicative. Jackies [sic] kids well behaved.

David called wanting to buy the new house at 633 Bordeaux. I had seen it with Karen. Asking $26,000 – but rooms are quite small. I said OK & sent check for $2,685 to hold it.
When I got up the decision had been made to got to Tuscon. On way stopped at Brenda Sutherland’s house & at Mesa Cemetery where Theresa Sheneman [aunt] is buried. Nice visit with Dick & Ferral Hazen. Dick had laryngectomy 2 yrs ago but talks quite well. Home about 9:30.

Sunny but cool. Drove through Luke AF Base & then to a county park in White Tank Mts. West of base. Not much blooming but cactus wrens & white crowned sparrows everywhere. In PM Kathi, Mother, Charlotte (neighbor girl) & I drove up Black Canyon Highway to Cordes Lakes where Kathi & Don bought a lot for $2,000.

Dinner at Parlor A – Hotel Harding for Steering Committee of Marion County Historical Society. Had to leave Sis & Shirley with 5 funeral pieces to get there. Meeting to organize MCHS at Women’s Club Home attended by about 75. Pretty good since competition with Travel Series. Mr. Daniel R. Porter of Ohio Historical Society outlined projects we might undertake. About 50 paid $5 & signed as members. Star had carried no publicity so I had called them at 8 AM – got a 3″ item buried on 2nd page. I also put a paid ad in “Round About Marion”* David introduced Porter. Charlton Myers elected president of MCHS. The dinner at Hotel was to outline procedure. Ported said even though he heard railroad whistles it was the best way to get an organization started.

Sick in night – indigestion – passed out on kitchen floor. Took bus to airport. Some clouds but could see Okefenokee swamp. Howard met me. Left Tampa 9:30. Walked in shop at 1:30.
