Jo Stafford birthday (George Stafford wife)
Went with daddy to Harold Rockwell’s to get his iris. $25 – Good measure & that many more seedlings. Also D. K. Williamson & Awas. He sure knows his stuff & his Sweet Williams were gorgeous. Also had a darling chinese orchid. Wally sawed tomato stakes all evening & I worked around here getting ready for tomorrow until 12:30.

Made a colonial bouquet of American Beauty Roses & light blue delphinium for Gladys Nystrom. Blue streamers on it were to ties recipes on $3.50. Took it out about 11:30.
Made 2 batches of strawberry jam. Had first on all made ready to pour certs in & the certs (old) was stiff so it had to sit while David (on tricycle) & I went to grocery. But is seems all right.
Helped daddy set out snapdragon plants (red velvet & tetra). Put some that hadn’t been transplanted in my bed but they sure are tiny.
Bernard & Rosina Brooks up for evening & after several hints we finally caught on – blessed event in January. Talked about our trip & listened to president Truman about veto of Labor Bill. Had strawberry whipped cream pie.

Mrs. Fred Cheney & I went up to Camp Young to see if it would be “presentable” to entertain Council for cookout next Monday night. Tank weed killer along to kill poison ivy.
The rains had finally washed away the log on which we crossed the swale & The Frews & Bachmans went out last Saturday & built a crude bridge on logs further up the swale.
Group of 20 girls were out there camping & getting along splendidly.
Wally replanted some of sweet corn where it hadn’t come up.

So much to do around here – worked in house a little & out doors some even tho it was wet.
Wally cleaned up back of the garage & started a rock garden in the SE corner. Looks much better. But the rain had left the wild garden a lake so he had to carry me across.
Just after making arrangements with Mary to go see “The Yearling” Ray called saying he was going to Galion about arrangements to got to Waynesboro to see Baker on June 22. – So told him couldn’t go.
Enjoyed the movie very much. Stopped in at the folks on way home & havd watermelon & talked about our trip & the one they are planning.
