Beautiful day. Kathy is attending Bible School at Trinity this week & next. Washed & clothes dried quickly.

After lunch started on flower bed next to walk in front. Dug narcissus bulbs & then set in blooming “cut & come again” zinnias – pink from daddy’s garden. He had Reuben weeding for him all day at $1 per hour. But he got through most of the glads & some of the annuals. Set out my glad seedlings after supper.

Damp Dull day so didn’t wash. Should see the cecropia larva – about 30 have moulted & some are an inch long – yellow now. Have lost quite a few.

Went uptown after Wally got home. Got me a pink & aqua linen dress with irregular peplum $7.77 at Holly Shop. Also a gather neck blouse $2.25. Shopped for groceries. Took Wally & David to mother’s (Kathy had been there all afternoon) Didn’t knwo she had had another indigestion attack. – Iced cake for V.C. Picnic at Edith’s. Dale S. called just before I left saying no races – he & Wally were to start working tonight. I tried to get Wally then – missed him at mother’s & at home later & finally caught up with him at Romines suggesting we take in a movie after picnic. Asked Flo to go with us but she was mad cause I called & took Wally away.

Got white zinc labels & labelled 37 of my iris. Helped daddy dig tulip bulbs. Labelled his new iris for him.

Up a little late so with Wally’s persuasion didn’t go to Sunday School. Transplanted alyssum in bed inside hedge to make a complete row.

Then to Walt’s mothers for dinner. He made the plans because I thought this was the Sunday Ray was going with Ed Thomas – so hea & Flo were very put out at me – as if I had done it deliberately!

Had good dinner & then started for the Lake in the rain. Found Mary J. family at Plateau Beach without any difficulty. Nice private place – but the apartment didn’t compare with our cottage at Skyland. Left there about 5 after a little boating. Left there about 5 after a little boating. Ruth & Louis Ruhlman stopped here for supper to eat up ice cream & cake. Would have gone to Romines but Delores wasn’t home. I didn’t know Wally had planned to until Florence called.

Wally asked Bernard and Rosina Brooks up for evening so we decided to make homemade ice cream & cake. HMary H & romines also came – Mother & Daddy later.

Sandra has a cold so Romines left about 10:30.

Had cleaned freezer out with a lysol solution & the taste lingered in the ice cream. Had fun teasing them with what it was.

Friday, July 4, 1947 High 85 low 72 – perfect weather
Fourth time for me to spend the Fourth the same —

Made meat loaf & baked limas which took all morning. Followed recipe in BH&G Cookbook – Meat loaf not too bad but beans weren’t the way I like them.

Romines came at 1:30 – ask Mary Wooley* to go with us. Picked up Mary H. First stop was Walnut Lake. Had a time finding it. Lake very putrid. Found hound’s tongue almost through blooming. Also a little blue forget-me-not-like flower. Ray butterflied – but when the unseen bull started bellering we left. But Ray had a flat tire! Then on to H. Smith Park – Upper Sandusky – all went swimming except Flo – who didn’t watch the kids in the little pool – Mary H – Walt & I took turns. David loved every minute of it & Kathy gets along very well. Mary J. & kids met us there. Had swell picnic supper & then on over to Bucyrus. Parked at Lowells** & walked to Aumiller Park. Kids played on swings, slides, etc. Then we watched ball game. Finally fireworks – Ray had another flt tire on way home.

[*Mary (Mrs. Robert Wooley) was boarder in upstairs apartment at 552 N. Greenwood Street]

Cut of tops of iris along fence & set out scabiosa plants that I had started for garden club talk. They should have been out a month ago. Hope they recover. Transplanted some of the self seeded asters on soth side of house.

Had 3 corsages to make for Mildred Walter wedding – used delph. sweet peas – roses. Delivered them around 6 & shopped for groceries. Still eating supper when Webb’s dropped in on way home from Assembly. We were just leaving then when Mary J. came. So she took Wally to Romines while Mary H (who arrived from camp about supper time) kids & I picked up Mrs. Altzman & went to Rueben Smith’s to see if she thought his place would be a good place to visit for a garden tour. Took her home & back to Romines to plan for picnic tomorrow. Quite a talk with Wally after we got home about this situation.

Finally got busy on kitchen- Washed woodwork & in late afternoon got the 3 rooms back there mopped.

Made 2 more funeral pices. Mother & Daddy got home about 3:30 from their trip. Were here when Wally got home. Had swell time from reports.

Got neighborhood order $10 for Mr. Kister, so cut flowers (delphinium & Madonna lilies used all week) & took them to Mother’s & made it there. Took in $53 while they were gone. They gave me $25 & Wally $1 for delivering.
