Worked over home – Were to pick up Romines up at 2 but I got held up & their phone was out so finally sent Walt on out. Ray came back & just as I finished so we went by a circuituous route down below Stratford – Stopped at Lost Woods – caught 6 grapta interr. from the car window.
Nice spot for a picnic. Came home & put kids to bed. Wally & Flo went out to play ping pong. I worked on article for Star with Ray’s “help”. Rueben Smith stopped in saying he wanted to give plants to Garden Show winners.

School took up at 1:15 & I planned to go with Kathy but Beth came over for her & Kathy said “Mommy, I’m big enough to go by myself. You don’t need to got with me.” So— Independence is not to be taken lightly so off she went. But when other kids came home – no Kathy. Beth finally went back for her & she was waiting for Beth in Beth’s room. Not too loquacious about school.

Wally came home with a new Nash Ambassador.
Took Ruth up to Reisers fruit farm to get peaches but they won’t have any until Saturday.
Wally said he had to be back at 5:30 & when he came home after taking Ruth & Lewis he had the new car. It’s $600 more – two shades of light blue & quite nice – other one way too light. But there are other things than cars.
With kids drove out to see Mary J. & get fern her mother had for me.

Birthdays – Daddy and Mary J.
Even with my bed roll I slept cold. Ray wakened me from the end of the tent to go over & get breakfast started but everyone woke at once then so got kids dressed too. Wally & Willard started building a bridge between kitchen & tent units so Flo went with Ray & I bugging – in shorts! Soon gave up & went back to pant because she had to get dinner “alone” (Willard didn’t count. It had to be Wally) So Ray went too. I came in about 11:00 & helped too. Florence in her cutie babe mood. Closed up camp & came home about 1:30. wally & Flo took [end of entry]
