Ad Hoc Committee meeting at Gateway room. Charlton Myers there but uncooperative. Ruth Kelly really helpful – & joined the Society. Virginia Howard took chairmanship – named Dominic Sansotta chairman of the site committee – Dick Bryson chairman of Staff committee & Carroll Neidhart chairman of Funding.
Wedding appointment at shop & then to mother’s. Got her supper & she ate well. Said “Now this coffee is just as good as fresh.” She thought I served her what she had in a pan all day. I said “It is fresh made.” She said “It isn’t any better than what’s made ahead.”

Had supper with Mary & Carl Jordan at Turroffs.

Repotted violets.

Howard & I picked mother up about 2:00. To Union Co. She told us who lioved in every house within miles of “Sheneman’s Corners”. Howard uncomfortable riding. Served suypper at Mothers. Ham loaf (from David), mashed potatoes, lima beans & cake Karen brought her.

Article in Sunday feature section on bowel malfuntion under stress. Described mother’s symptoms exactly – after we spend $25 on medicine & $50 on Dr. & Nurse calls!

Mary called. They are staying at Vivian’s until Wed.

Friday, February 13, 1981 10 Low 32 High 263 deliveries $7,003 sales $7,500 receipts

Sunny all day – Terry, Jim Stevens, Martie Martin, Doug Burchette & Greg Etter (1 deliv) doing super job – & Judy so calm – Things just get done with fo fuss.

Worked until 11:15 & hope others quit.

Talked to mother 3 times but kept me busy getting deliveries routed so didn’t get up.

Letter from Kathi. She’s so worried abut Davie. He will not be responsible for his actions.

Thursday, February 12, 1981 7 Low 15 High 125 deliveries
Called Mother – She’s no longer dizzy – can lift her hand – and doesn’t need Eleanor – not becasue she costs $3.35 an hr! – but when I talk to Mary I’m not to tell her she is OK!

Everything running very smoothly at shop. Doug Burchetta & Jim Stiverson helping Terry. Judy told Chris to leave at 6 – the others worked until 9 – Chris lost any overtime because she insisted on having 40 hrs when we weren’t busy.

Had cold meat sandwiches, relishes & potatoe chips for crew supper & Terry got pizza he won on Quickie Quiz.

Called Mary at Vivian’s. 65 there today.

Letter from David. He enjoyed the article about Lion Gardiner – Thanks we should have Gardiner’s Island as descendants of Gardiner soldier – Thomas Hurlbut.

Had a flower order & the card was “Will You Marry Me?”

Dr. Whitehead in to see mother about 1:00 – He is so patient. Blood pressure ok – no abdominal tenderness – but he had nurse come to give her an enema – no impaction – Intestine completely clear, as I felt it woule be – Advised better diet & 6 glasses liquied a day, just as I had.

Got Elanor to come stay with her and I worked from 12 to 3:30 – Made 40 Cash & Carry in 90 minutes. They were already greened.

Forecasters had mother scared to death of weather. Cold & windy but only 1″ snow.

Called Mary at Vivians. Mother told her when she called her last night that she wouldn’t be sick if Mary was home.

Got Camera Club newsletter ready before I went in to work. Geneva called – had taken jello to mother & thought she should have a fibre laxitive. I took it to her about 1:30 after getting 1981 sticker for car at Ohio State Patrol. Stayed with mother until 4 – Sorted my 1980 checks.

Wedding appointment at 5:45. Lillian back from Fla & brought me oranges & grapefruits.

To Altrusa business meeting. I accepted nomination to board. Home by 8:30.

Weather forecast for winter storm today but only had rain.

Noon meeting at Smorgasbord great success – John Cottrell – Dominic Sansotta – Larry Adams – Dick Bryson – Mary Louise Rimbach – Phyllis & I – all enthusiastic about plan. First question was “What’s the matter with Bowen-DeWolfe house?” I told them Ron Laipley already has asked for small room. When I got back to shop Ron called – interested in our plans. I told him I’d keep him posted, but would be at least a year.

Told Judy about workshop at Cincinnati I’d like to attend & showed here my “10 yr plan” for her to buy shop.

Dinner with Jordan’s & all of us up to see mother. She says she can’t lift her hands but she shook hands with Mary. Mary, Carl & I to Palace – Clay Franceson on “Brazil”

Worked on check writing – conceived plan for Judy to buy Hemmerlys with initial cost of about 15,000- I would finance or rather corporation would & she would buy assets for $125,000. @ 10% interest. She would pay for it with what my present salary is – first year. Int $11,000 – Principal $12,000. As interest declines each year if would give her about $1,000 a year raise. Payout about 10 years. She could setup new depreciation schedules & organize either a partnership with Greg or a corporation – selling shares to employees to raise money.
Wrote guidelines for new Ad Hoc Committe for meeting tomorrow with prospective committee members.

Typed Chalker sheets until noon. In to shop at 12. Two wedding appointments. Had Chris sit in to learn techniques & prices. To Mothers. Home about 5:30 – Supper – TV – reread all published material on Chalkers that we have.

Shop looks ready for Valentine – All containers filled – good stck of silk arrangemtns & planters.
