Sunday, March 8, 1981 Temp 40 Sunny [on west vacation – Reno to Monterey – DoubleTree Inn for FTD Workshop]
Leisurely start from Sands at 9 after moving kids over to Miners next door. Trip over Donner Pass a breeze – Skiers at Castle Rock. Beyond Rt. 20 – I-80 was new territory. Kathi riding in the back had bests view but poorest seat. Magnificent mountains – valleys – vistas – Lunch at Auburn – Brown’s – then view of San Pedro Bay – across brides David’s directions easy to foillow to 1138 Fontana – arrived 2:00 PM – Town Houses with only open fields between them & San Francisco Bay. Met Pat & Linda & walked to Bay. Pampas grass & jack rabbits. Left at 4:00 Coast cloudy part way but gorgeous sunset into fog bank. Monterey at dusk 7:00 – Dinner at Capt. Galley on Cannery Row. Delicious – Snapper, squid & scallops with Monterey Riesling. Bed at 10:15.
