Easy drive home. Stopped at Marysville KMart for lunch.

Thursday, March 26, 1981
Haldeman’s took me to airport early – TWA in new part. Found my ticket was for yesterday! But still got window seats. Thro Chicago – cloudy most of way. First thing I saw out terminal window was my car with Karen & kids. Traffice jam back to Cinci – Semi jackknifed.

David showed his slides & movies of trip. Fantastic – he has a good eye – & Kodak Developing.

To Chinese “smorgasbord” for lunch & Mexican food for dinner. – This is America?

Tuesday, March 24, 1981
Jackye & WIlda dropped me at Walt’s about 11 after drive up Pinal Pioneer Pkway – so much dead cacti. Found it was because areas burned.

All the neighbors came over for a beer (and maybe curious as to Walt’s ex-wife?)

Visited Hinegardners at their Rock Shop. 82 noew and still traveling. Have joined to “Century Club” – as they have visited 113 countries! Then to Goe & Char’s – she does china painting.

Monday, March 23, 1981
Wilda, Jackye & I left ranch at 4:37 in Cadillac. At Garvers – Rincon Dr. Greev Valley by 9. WIlda & Jackye on to Nogales to look for benches. Don, Don Flack & I to Madera Canyon home of Mrs. Newcomer to see birds – and we did – she has 20 or so feeders up. Lifew new for me were broad bellied & blanck chinned hummingbirds, Acorn & Arizona woodpecker, Mexican Juanao & Jay. Lunch at Santa Rita Lodge – we had “Birdwatcher Special”. Jackye & Wilda picke me up at Garvers at 3. TO Tuscon – Found Kent’s building project. Quite impresse office area – landscaped. Motels all full finally got a room at the Ambassador. Don’t – Dinner at Maria Callendars. Spinach Quiche far too large but good. Callled David to tell him to pick me up Thursday.

Sunday, March 22, 1981
Ranch Temp 70 Sunny
Lazy day. Baco, waffles & orange juice from oranges just picked – Lunch on patio in sun with Wilda & Jackye. Took walk along ranch trails for 1 hr AM & 1 hr PM. At dusk Ray took me in the golf cart to see the horned owl. T-Bone steacks for dinner from Ranch beef. Tener! Juicy! Delicious. Over to Wilda’s to say good-by to Bill & Wilda & had made 3 layer dessert. Oh my poor pounds.

Watche “Patton” with Chuck family. Packed & bed at 11 – Finished “The Golden Days of San Simeon.” Sleep 12.

Misting AM Clearing PM Temp in 50s
Lazy day. Slept until 9. Wrote Kathi a 4 page letter. With Jackye on errands & copied letter for Mother & Howard.

Napped for 2 hours. Out at 5:30 & walked with dogs until 6:15. In to Wickenburg for fish dinner at Golden Nugget with Jackye, Kent, Ray, Wilda & Bill. Kent made “airplane with Wilda’s $20 bill – Bill “Hi-Jacked” it & we had t he whole restaurant looking for it.

Kent & Bill left for Tuscon about 8 – Jackye, Wilda & I looked at slides in my room. Her Hawaiian & my last year Arizona & California. Read “Citizen Hearst” until 1:00.

Thursday, March 19, 1981
Ranch to Sedona & Oak Creek Canyon & back 8 AM-10PM 256 miles.
Overcast Day, but that’s all that was gloomy. Jackye, Wilda & I had an “Everyplace we go is Fun” day. I had been up Yarnell Hill before but not over White Spar Highway way to Prescott. Took us to 6,00′ among pines – one with a Kaibab Squirrel perched on it. Coffee at Prescott & a quick drive past Victorian Heritage. Jerome still mostly vacant houses – as large as Virginia City, Nev. but not as restored. Glimpses of the snow capped San Francisco Peaks over the “lesser” ranges nearer. High meadows with clumps of Nolina. Surely no town has a more beautiful setting than Sedona – Towering red buttes of fantastic shapes. Shopped at Flaquepaque – Nice but looking Old Mexico. Lunch at Renio – crepes pompadour. On up the canyon – Little water in creek – Turned around mile 130 & view cliff. Picked Bobbie up in Prescott. Dinner at Prescott Mining Co. Back through mts. by cloudy moonlight. Home 10:00.
