Trella Hemmerly – 1935-03-16

Saturday March 16th 1935
Up at 8:00 and what a day! Flew Wally’s kite until he put it in a Fairground tree. Then played marbles and just raced around. Wore blue dress with cape and gray shoes up town- just window shopped and then went to library while Walt got a haircut. Slept on Wally’s lap about all evening. Bernard Brooks came after him at 10:30 to go to his house for all night.

Ate lunch at State Street Kresge’s.
Laura and I went to the show- Hudson- Shirley Temple in “Bright Eyes”. She is cute.
When we got home we were eating oranges and in walks Walt. Had been to see his mother. Fire in alley so we went about 10:45. Not much to see.

Wally met me after work tonight with a card from Bernard Brooks stating that Mary Burch and Robert Johnson were married at Trinity Sunday.
When I got home there was a letter from Bernard Brooks with more details.
That’s about all Walt or I could talk about tonight.
Bernard got a car last Saturday. Ford Sedan 1929.

Sunday March 10th 1935
Up at 9:30. Took bath after breakfast. Folks got here about 11:00 and we all went to Aunt May’s for dinner. Mary brought me some good fudge.
I got sick headache in the afternoon so didn’t enjoy myself much.
Left grandma at Aunt May’s & Mrs. Haldeman went home with Daddy’s.
Slept my headache off and went to church in the rain.
Wally and I went to Fireside and he brought me home.

Saturday March 9th 1935
They all make fun of my whistling at work. I met Wally at 2 and we went shopping. Got enough pieces to finish my quilt, a rose sweater and rose material for a spring dress.
Have all the pieces cut for my quilt now- the flowers I mean.
Mrs. Haldeman came in while I sewed. Made two and a half blocks.
And so to bed.

Friday March 8th 1935
Got started MJ Motor Freight this morning. About 400 bills (2 weeks almost.) to match- staple- stamp- check with B/L & rate and run tapes on.
Walt came down at 7 and visited his mother until 7:30 then we went to see Joan Crawford, Clark Gable and Robert Montgomery in “Forsaking All Others.” I was afraid Clark wouldn’t get his girl but he did.
Walt didn’t come in.
