Sunday, October 5, 1947 hot & sunny
Kathy went to Sunday School while I went over home & made up 1 piece of mums. Picked her up at 10:30 & then out to Romines to go to Cedar Swamp*. Mary sick & couldn’t go along.
Had dinner in Urbana & then on south to the swamp. It was a dark, dismal quaky place-really a bog. Arbor Vitae drooping until it was hard to get through. The rest soon gave up & Ray found the prize – fringed gentian growing practically in open water among tall grass at the edge of the trees. Color beautifual & sinze surprising. Took pictures poised precariously. And then back into the bog alone & got some orchid seed pod for Keith Lamb. Kathy complained of headache so started home at 3:15. She threw up but was OK after we got home. Romines came up for waffle supper. Mrs. Tower brought me 2 pictures of Bertha’s wedding. Ray & I took program material to Mildred Gorby.
Wrote 3 page letter to Keith Lamb to send orchid seed.
