Trella Hemmerly – 1947-07-04

Friday, July 4, 1947 High 85 low 72 – perfect weather
Fourth time for me to spend the Fourth the same —

Made meat loaf & baked limas which took all morning. Followed recipe in BH&G Cookbook – Meat loaf not too bad but beans weren’t the way I like them.

Romines came at 1:30 – ask Mary Wooley* to go with us. Picked up Mary H. First stop was Walnut Lake. Had a time finding it. Lake very putrid. Found hound’s tongue almost through blooming. Also a little blue forget-me-not-like flower. Ray butterflied – but when the unseen bull started bellering we left. But Ray had a flat tire! Then on to H. Smith Park – Upper Sandusky – all went swimming except Flo – who didn’t watch the kids in the little pool – Mary H – Walt & I took turns. David loved every minute of it & Kathy gets along very well. Mary J. & kids met us there. Had swell picnic supper & then on over to Bucyrus. Parked at Lowells** & walked to Aumiller Park. Kids played on swings, slides, etc. Then we watched ball game. Finally fireworks – Ray had another flt tire on way home.

[*Mary (Mrs. Robert Wooley) was boarder in upstairs apartment at 552 N. Greenwood Street]
