Left for Reubens when Kathy bgot home from Sunday School. Ray, FLo & Sandy there already with Johnny Gill who came from Galion on bus. Hazel Chase was sick with cold. Moth, Daddy & Mary completed party – 3 cars.
But Marie’s brother in Illinois was killed Friday & they had gone there. So we started out on our won. Ended up in Wyandot Co. along Sandusky [River]. Daddy got permission for us to go in. Trilliums at their best. Ate lunch along road & then explored some more. Whjile looking at bellwort Mary discover a newly emerged luna moth on the underside of a trillium – Beautiful. Sent Wally & Flo for more film & then Johnny discovered a young horned owl. Took a whole roll of it. Got as close as 4 ft. Pulled its wings out – what a bird. Not quite able to fly. Such claws. Then took 6 pictures of the Luna. Took Johnny home through Bucyrus with unfruitful stops. May & Ray here for waffles. Wally, Flo & kids ate at hot dog stand.*
Did a little star gazing but they left about 8:30.
[*Known as “The Footlong Hotdog Stand”, this iconic Marion shack was on North Main Street at either Hecker St. or Copeland St.]
