Loaned Gretchen Haley Book “Viola” by Brainard with David’s inscription on “new” violet species.
63-86
Taking feldene* for arthritis.
Picked Blue Lake green beans in garden across road – 13 beans on one plant! Also cucumbers, zucchini & tomato. Had to wear my Alaska mosquito hat. Cooked beans with ham shank & potatoes. Made zucchini bread.
Gretchen Haley & friend Cindy stopped by to see gardens but mosquitoes drove them inside. She is divorced from Graull, lost her house, but now has it back on land contract.
Wrote letters to Kristi, Jed, David about visit of Mosely & Denny & my talk with Dean Francis Hazard of OSUM – Sent copies to Kathi & David.

David called – he has moved his office to the SRC** office as he does so much work for them. Thanked me for Karen’s birthday gift ($250) – wanted to make arrangements to pick up MCHS computer in Cols tomorrow when family comes up to make entries at State Fair.
Mary out for supper bringing the first Crum farm sweet corn. Also had my first regular tomato along with beans and cucumbers.

[*Feldene was later banned]
[**Computer Supplier on Ludlow Ave in Cincinnati – no longer in business]

60-85
To Beatty Labs for another blood test. Dr. Lowe reported some tests high.
Worked all day on updating Purchase Fund contributions from Norm’s records.
At 4:00 to Mary’s & she drove us to Forest – picked up Jessie Baker & 2 great-grandgirls – To supper in Forest. Stopped at McBride’s to look at recliners. They closed from 6-7 so didn’t have time to make a purchase. Visited at Jessie’s some & then on to Kathy Kin’s to take her the “gold” framed memorial to her great-grandmother Elizabeth (Yeager) Hemmerly – died 1885 age 49. Left check with daughter as they went to Findlay shopping & car broke down – Pd me the $36 I paid for it. Elizabeth was my great aunt – died even before daddy was born.
Thelma Hemmerly called from Pontiac saying they wouldn’t be down this weekend.

To Richwood to give talk on Prairies to Richwood Senior Citizens – Filling potluck before my talk. Jean Shirk Parish & husband Ray Parish live at Center & nice to reminisce with her about growing up on Ballentine Ave. & her dad – Bert Shirks Carmel Corn business. WIlma Ross in charge (descended from Alice McAdow.
Stopped to visit with Ruby Fetter Thompson – she and daughter Moiselle were just returning from Marysville – Had nice visit & Moiselle worked at Richwood Bank so she will research Painting of Prince Imperial.
Changed clothes & on way home visited Prairie area on Rt. 739 NE of Green Camp to photograph prairie along abandoned RR. Florence Harruff stopped Kathleen – her mother-in-law with her – almost unrecognizable except for her voice – spoke in jerky inappropriate sentences. So sad. Then on to Rt. 95 W prairie – finally with my Minolta working so photographed silene regia for third time. Mosquitos bothersome.
Ruby gave me a photo of 1885. Sheneman’s Corners neighborhood kids including Uncles Jim & Meck and Aunts May, Bina & LIllie identified in Grandma Lucy Sheneman’s writing.

Left Royce cleaning (after she hit me up for a donation toward Treva’s sequin dress ($700) for the Miss Popcorn Festival Pageant)
Left about 11:00 to meet Marilyn Meseke Rogers at Heritage Hall where she donated the robe she wore at a Reunion of Miss America in the 70’s – weighs a lot – red & white with blue cowl hood & voluminous. Dick West acted as if he were the only reason she came to Marion & gave a tour of the Popcorn Museum that was very boring. Lou Whitmer from the Star came for photos & interviews & Bernard Brooks was at Heritage hall – so we had 3 class of ‘33. Took Marilyn to Turroff’s for lunch & then a little tour of Marion – her home on Prospect St. & Harding – City Hall – site of Central Jr. Hi.
After she left I did some regular tours as this was my volunteer day.
Took labels to Dr. Mauk for mailing on Ed Huber’s induction into Ohio Agriculture Hall of Fame on August 10 at State Fair.
Too tired to go to Long Range Planning Committee at Boy Scout Office.

Kathi is 49!
Video taping for Agriculture Business Network – Ed Johnson
Called Kathi to wish her happy birthday & tell her that my check for $500 was on the way- use it to buy more rocks for their yard. Bob taking her to German restaurant in Lake Taho for dinner tonight.
To Claridon Prairie at 12:00 – Met Bonnie Bell & Jim – cameraman – of Ed Johnson’s ABN TV program staff – with camera only 18” from my face I answered questions on significance of Claridon Prairie – how I became interested in Prairies and how this remnant came to be preserved. Shot a roll of print film of blooming forbs.
Then in to OSUM campus. While waiting for Ed Johnson in Dean Francis Hazard;s office it seemd an appropriate time to mention my thoughts on adding Terradise to the Nature Center complex of the Marion Campus. He seemed delighted.
On the campus prairie Dean Hazard & I were interviewed by Ed Johnson after a run-through on what he wou ld ask. He is a man that makes seconds count. Had come from one taping and headed for another. Didn’t accompany Bunny, Jim & Tabor Allison to west of Marion where they photographed silene regia – Too hot.
Home – bath- nap- supper – and finished judging the 14 entries in Local History Publications category. 7 yes 7 no.
