Monday, August 27, 1990
Sorted piles of accumulations. Got bedroom/computer room ready for session with David tonight.
In to shop for groceries, pick up sweet corn at McMahons, leave Huber Newsletters at Willis Nye’s.
Home & got meat loaf dinner ready. Haldemans arrive about 7:00.
David & I worked from 9 to 12 repairing programs, teaching me Ventura Publisher, etc.
Karen asleep in bed with her book when we finished.

Sunday, August 26, 1990
2 hrs Bricks & MCHS Purchase Fund
7:50 – Cedar Waxwings – flock of 7 or 8 tufted titmice in beech & oaks. Most look like juveniles. Carolina AWren singing.
97th Reserve Unit from Marion put on alert.
Muggy & hot – Learning sessions on new computer. Called David but he was at COG Convention in Dayton. Wrote to Kristi & Kathi – Sent Ray’s poem Sonnet 441014 – to a poetry contest. Cooked boiled potatoes & fried minute steaks for lunch at 4:00.

Saturday, August 25, 1990
MCHS 2 hrs.
Finished mowing with push mower in front yard. Tried to learn Ventura Publisher – frustrating – Can’t get Lazer [sic] printer to print any different fonts.
Mary out with sweet corn. Baked orange roughy to go with it. Corn too far gone to be good.
Sorted out MCHS files while watching TV – Worked on it until 1:30 AM.

Friday, August 24, 1990
Streets closed for Farmer’s Festival.
Took Howard to Caledonia. Mowed from 11 to 3:00 – Even go the banks across the road. Looks great. Love the open look towards the road where the 3 Hopa Crabs were. Alos the view to the river from the upper deck that had been blocked by Washington Thorns.
Set out New Eng. Asters, late aster across the road among the mosquitos.
Mary H & Mary J picked me upt to go to Al’s in Cardington for dinner. Robin & LeAnne are separated from husbands & Bob’s son K is divorced. Ed Granger & Barbara Jordan seem to be happy in their June 30 marriage. Barbara is learning to be a Morman wife. Don Augenstein – Marine – is headed for Saudi Arabia.

No landscapers today.
Discovered big bluestem clump in bloom across road in original prairie planting.

Ray Foertsch here to cut 3 Hopa Crabs & Washington Thorn. Hard work for a 78 yr old man. Also cut 4 lilac bushes on bank N of lower driveway. Didn’t have the heart to ask him to do any more. Installed outside lamp on post. Landscapers didn’t show up.

Mark & helps finished brick walk to where it will connect with the steps from lower drive. Also cut sod & marked out bed from road along driveway to fill in hole. Want to be able to mow from road down to pond.

MCHS 2 hrs + 100 miles
TO Class of ‘33 bfst at Isaly’s. Sat with Mary Gracely Conyers & Richard Minshall. Dick & Imogene here from Fla. Dick remembers daddy popping corn in water – (only a little, I think, to restore moisture). Reminisced about growing up on Dix Ave. He was 3 when I was born & played with my erector set.
Picked Mary up & off to Ohio Hist Soc to pick up “Time & Again” exhibit. Had it ready on loading dock. Then to MCI Cafeteria for lunch (Chi-Chi’s too full) – Then to 3rd Ave W to buy lamp for outdoor post – Cast Iron – $100.
Unloaded 3 boxes at Heritage Hall & left word on selling it up for the popcorn festival. It must be returned April 30, 1991.

Monday, August 20, 1990
In to Marion – deluxe warm white fluorescent bulbs for bathroom at Van Attas – money at Marion Bank – modem connector & 5 ½” high density disks at Marion Computer. Then to Mary’s – formed a chain to help clean out her attic above garage. Things Rocky & Kenny had saved.
She came home with us for sweet corn & wieners lunch. Haldemans left about 2:00. Took load of Belden bricks & stuff from Mary’s. Landscapers came & started laying bricks.

My old 20 mhz computer failed while I was trying to copy files to a disk. David took it with him to see if he can salvage anything. Hate to loose that file on excerpts Gary Barnhart made from Marion Star.

Cooked for Haldemans. They arrived about 1:00. By the time we ate it was raining so boys couldn’t mow. David brought my new SrC 386 computer – color monitor & Panasonic laser printer. So much to learn.

Saturday, August 18, 1990
Picked up Bob & Sue Harter N of Delaware – to Batelle-Big Darby Metro Park SW of Cols for Ninth Ohio Prairie Conference. – Took pressed specimens of silene regia to Charlie King for Ohio Biological Survey herbarium.
Good program – especially report on Ohio Dept Transportation 5 yr grant to study prairie plants for use in highway plantings.
Tours to Bigelow & Smith Cemetery. Harters wanted to leave at 5:30 & though hated to miss tour of Big Darby prairie – I was tired so good thing they wanted to leave.
Stopped at their house & Bob’s 10×12’ prairie is a microcosm of true prairies – gave me 4 flats of perennials including prairie dropseed.
