Grocery shopped & took film to Meijer – Sweet corn at Duffys (also from Crum’s wagon) – Took video tape carrier to Sears & “Lou” (clerk) unjammed it & wanted to see some of the Irish video in it.

Bill Hutchman called & I gave him report on our visit with Wm Eugene Hutchman in Limvady.
Erma called later & asked about Claridon Prairie Tour – I had forgotten until she reminded me.

Mary out & I gave her the tan embroidered linen cotton sweater that I got at Quills (Ring of Kerry) TO bed at 9:00
Walked around garden & watered some. Had bfst in gazebo.
Letter from Dorothy (Hemmerly) Yocum; Springfield Oregon wanting 4 Hemmerly books – she is 1st cousin of Monica Loftin.
Checked e-mail – Sent message to all – Called Kathi.

My head feels like it is spinning – & I have no stamina-

Plane full so stopping 4 hrs 9 min in Gander to refuel 40 minutes on ground 38,000 ft Detroit 12:30 local time

David woke me at 5:25 – Karen had been up since 5:–
6:35 to airport & returned car £250 – more charges – fuel – ions -extra day – David to check in – but we all had to go – Then back to departure gate – thro Duty free shop – bot coasters, Brendan Irish Cream & Bailey Irish Cream.
Boarding at 9:00 – Seated in center section – 4 across
Push of 9:40 – Taxiing to 9:50 – Takeoff 9:52 – See the Shannon River – In clouds – Turned watch back to 5:00 –
5:35 Light snack & bev
6:00 reading “The Master of Ballatrae” by RLS – finished it later
8:40 befinngin descent into Gander – arr 25 min.
Flew over “burial” of Master of Ballentrae!
10:40 AM depart Gander
1:00 arrive Detroit: Baggage last off carousel – Custom do sniffed our luggage (it was my apple tort in red thermal bag) so we had a baggage check – David’s “peat” passed. I didn’t fill in birth date & when I gave it custom check woman said “I’d say you’re doing very well!”
Sarah met us at 3:30 at gate – had been waiting 4 hrs! – Ate at Root beer stand – called Mary to meet at her house – there at 6:30 transferred my luggage to her car & said thanks all around. David & Karen & Sarah headed for Urbana & then Cinci – Mary brot me home & I collapsed. In bed by 8:30 PM (actually 1:30 AM Ireland time – had been up 20 hrs) Kathi called about 10 – She had been in Reno for toothache.

10:00 Connor Bus Tour picked us up at Flesk Lodge & made rounds of Killarney for pick ups – 3 kinds of roofs in Ireland – mostly tile – lots of slate – a few thatched. So much new residential building – 50% population is under 25 – Killarney was only 12,000 a few yrs ago now a city – 4 new hotels.
11:00 Gap of Dunloe – bit of bluye sky but Magillcuddy Mts in mist.
11:15 Kellvorgan pop 3,000 – aniomal fair in Aug: 33,000 people here.
Dingle Peninsula to right – driver recommended it – different than Iverone (Iva, Ray – then Mary)

Drove down hill to port area where DART station was & parked car. Tara exit. Walked past Customs Building to O’Connell Street – PO for stamps. Bus tour of Dublin – double-decker bus – sat on top.
10:25 Lvg. Driver witty and factual – much of Dublin destroyed in 1916. Abbey Church (1860) – RR bridge (not architect’s dream). Liberty Hall (1969) – tallest building. Trinity College – Protestant until recently. Mainham Monastery became prison. Phoenix Park – People’s garden – 17,700 acres – Wellington Monument. ?? Crakes almost extinct birds until they left acres unmowed for their nesting. Pres of Ireland home – Mary McAliche – Pope celebrated mass at Wellington Monument for 1.25 million people in 1979. Ann Ambas residence. Mrs. Kennedy Smith – blessed for bringing peace to Ireland. Lord Chesterfield blocked development & created Phoenix Park 1740. Planted Horse Chestnut (called chestnut) beech – basswood – lime trees. 1700’s Georgian houses with painted doors & intricate fanlights. Merridin Squares Russell. Yeats lived in area now offices & showrooms sell for 986 million. St. Stevens green – been a common since 1172. Molly Malone pushcart statue – Temble Bar worth walking. Dublin Castle – City Hall – St. Patrick’s Church – Guinness Brewery had 24 children – 1 wife no multiple births. Stopped at former hosp – now Museum of Modern Art (a boat). Liffey bridges – Danl O’Connell Bridge (brot rights to Catholics) renamed in 1924 – Genl PO – Rebel Hdq during uprising

4:15 off DART – to car & headed for Waterford

4:45 – Avoca Handweavers shop. Tall plant like at Keith’s front door – Roundwood – highest village in Ireland.

Called Eamon & canceled meeting – drove by his house & also Debby’s daughter not far from Cara.
9:00 – Malahide Castle grounds – not open until 10:00.
9:20 – Portamonk – gas £17.80 & car wash (£5.50).
9:50 – Howth – stamps £4.90 – mailed cards.
10:00 – called for room in Dun Laoghaire (#2 Lyndon).
10:50 – Dublin Port “Gateway to Holyhead & Liverpool”.
Along Liffey – toll road 60p.
11:10 – Blackrock – parked along bay – double-decker buses.
11:15 – ferry to Dun Laoghaire – only 5 minutes.
11:22 #2 Lyndon – actually #7 to sleep.
Walked Henry St. pedestrian – I met D & K. on bridge at 8. Ate at Flannagans Pub – at 8 for appearance on families computer screens in USA.
Back to Dun Laoghaire on DART.
Trinity College – £7 for 3 – Book of Kells exhibit. 9th century.
Awesome – 4 or 5 rotundas – pages displayed & annotated.
Library unbelievable – conservation actions delineated. Jonathan Swift,
Genl PO for stamps & exhange – back to Dun Laoghaire via DART.T relaxed in room – D & K to pub.

Now in N. Ireland – no checks but armed garda
10:00 in Londonderry – sent Journal 3 – Bought tin whistle in music shop right next door.
11:40 Limavady – phone call to Wm. Eugene Hutchman. He came in his car & led us to his home. Wife + 2 daughters + granddaughter. Gave me 2 discs with all his Hutchman research.Showed us print-outs – uses Family Tree Maker.
Served us tea & tarts. Mrs. Hutchman told of of family divided & guns & checks everywhere before Peace. Told of stone cottage where Hutchmans had lived.

2:45 Giant’s Causeway £3 parking + £2.60 bus to rocks.
3:45 lvg north coast – Scotland in mist.
4:10 Ballycastle scenic coastal road to Cushendun.Sheep country – corkscrew roads clinging to cliffs.15 mph – can barely pass cars.
5:15 – Cushendall – fish & chips “take-away.”
6:00 Ballymena A26 Antrim spring water by-pass Belfast.
Saw industrial area.
6:45 Dunmurry (south of Belfast) former DeLorean plant
No reservation at Malahide – finally directed to Cara – vouchers not accepted. Used this voucher last night at Limerick.

Drove on – passed Kinsely Agriculture & Food Development Center. Did Keith work here?
