To National Archives to look at Benoni Hurlbut file that Lorene ordered for me yesterday. It told the sad tale of his being shot at Perrysburg, Kentucky and bullet lodged in lung causing 3/4 disability so he never could farm much. Finally got a $6 month pension- died in state hospital October 1900.

Took Metro to Farragut North stop and walked to National Geographic Hall of Discovery. Leakey lecturing (second hand). South American handicraft (weaving). Walked to White House but line too long to wait to go in Rose Garden. Walked on over to American History Museum. Lunch. Biggest thrill was 1920 School room. Rested before walking to Dunkers for our final dinner together. Donald Ray Barnes spoke on genealogy.
