[David & Susannah Haldeman work day]
Up at 6:30 AM and drove truck with 4 concrete slabs for the vernal pool boardwalk. Many leaves from Kentucky Coffee Tree down on lower driveway. Also, hawthorne next to steps down to hickory trees had fallen. Cleaned up and burned hawthorne on the spot. Moved rowboat up the hill and plan to use it to shade out the Japanese Knotweed infestation just off the driveway.
Susannah cleaned up the front plantings of dead hosta and prairie plants.
Tried to start Toro Zero Turn mower, but starter just whizzed.
Picked up spare front tire at Miller Lawn & Equipment, and they will call me Monday for pickup

Called R&R Drain & their crew were here by 1:00 with back hoe & pumping truck. Excavated lawn in area where I insisted the opening to tank would be found & there it was – not under the blacktop as they had insisted when here last fall.
After pumping tank & reaming lines they asked me to flush toilets. The one in main bathroom overflowed same as before so he brought a snake & unplugged it – which is what I asked them to do when they were herre Friday but they insisted on the digging – ! Oh well, the problem is fixed – tank not pumped since 1974!
At 5:00 to Gateway Smorgasbord – for dinner & annual meeting of Edward Huber Memorial Association – John Watkins first president gave run down on history of EHMA. I challenged them to create an endowment fund & much interest shown.

Madge 2 hrs
Bfst on porch – Many bird songs as I record them for future identifications. Spent most of morning in woods – enjoying Terradise and realizing that all my plans and hopes for what it could be have been realized. Very satisfying thought. This spring growth has been exuberant.
World on Madge’s story for 2 hrs. Ate lunch on deck & missed Kathi’s call so called her back & also talked to Kristi, home for Mother’s Day & for a date with Brad Buchanan – Navy man but also from Kristi’s High School graduating class – She proficiencied er college English & needs only few credits now for her Associate Degree.
To Mary’s at 5:00 to go to Delaware to get a Quiche for Monday & to have dinner at The Mill again. Stopped at Harter’s on way home. So good to see Bob & Sue – Gave him prairie seeds from Kensel that he didn’t have & he gave me Silene virginian & Cardinal Flower & and endangered western sunflower.

Hi – Hope you’re improved? Much, that is.
Just got home (11:00) & figured too late to call! You’re still under weather, hence postcard.
Talk went well — enjoyed pinch-hitting; had nice lunch; everything Jake.
Mounted H. Co. stuff prior to talk – all went well also.
See you soon. (Wrote letter Thomas*– half apologizing) (no slosh, no fumble)

P.S. Pupa from Hocking Co. (Colledted only Sun) has hatched – with surprising results: recall largets gray (5″) moth found on tree trunk? THis was another just like it! The “Thru the Year” part of book on Smokies is by Art Stupla — who Thomas says took lacta there – remember?
P.P.S. I have “Manual of Ohio Weeds” – came yesterday.
