Wrote to Charlie King, head of Ohio Biological Survey about Bob’s [Bob Harter] idea of listing prairie indicator species within the genus in descending order of use in determining that it is a prairie. Also alerted to him to the Route 739 prairie*.

[*Trella later purchased this railroad right of way and donated it to the Marion County Historical Society]

Royce here and we washed windows inside and out and put up storm windows. Martha Neville brought Achimia and Lamb’s Ear. In at 5:15 to pick up MCHS newsletter. Norm and Donna Ruth Fogt helped with labels- the database didn’t spew them all out by using zip codes- a mess. Then we went to McDonald’s for Big Macs using their coupons. Shopped at Walden’s and got a new WordStar book.

Mary out with video of last night’s newscast. Showed the four destroyers steaming in a line with the burning platforms- 1,000 rounds of ammunition fired. We wonder if Dave was involved and how.

Kass called- she wants to rent the barbershop area- they haven’t paid rent for a year if they can be evicted by November 1st would be a card shop and novelties. All the things I never could sell. But I didn’t discourage her.

Roy finished patio. $210 including the yard work last Friday.

To Columbus for OAHSM board meeting. Met Bill and Chris at 9:15 to go over my committee suggestions.
On way home all radio newscasts telling of stock market crash- over 500 points drop on Monday- 22% of the value of the market.

At home the headline in the Star was about U.S. warship attack on a military platform in the Persian Gulf later in the article they mentioned they named them and the Hoel* was one of them. I called Kathi and she hadn’t heard.
Ray Foertsch worked on laying brick for patio.

[*Dave Decker was deployed on the Hoel]
