Took a day for myself! Washed windows in TV room. Took Howard to Caledonia and went into May’s Hardware and bought a three-step ladder $13 and 4-gallon tub $8
At 1:30 went to Caledonia Cemetery for Irene Howser service. Spoke to Robin, Jim’s wife and Barbara. Drove along Claridon Prairie and collected seed. To Krogers shopping $41 including pork chops at 99 cents a pound! had to buy the whole loin. Baked a store pumpkin pie and pizza and invited Mary out to eat. Mowed leaves while it was [illegible] and sowed prairie seed across Road.

Reworked committeew in am. To Center to open but no visitors. Copied 1939 Marion map reduced for Bus Hinklin for Marionites in Florida.
Stopped at Wendy’s for Swiss bacon burger sandwich. Mrs. Oppenheimer withl Waldo Pioneer Days came to my table for info on Underground Railroad in Marion County. Told her of three stations listed in County history.
Kathi called really excited. Has part-time job at Bogay Flowers at $6.50 an hour operating Mercury* and salesperson.

To Local History Office by 9:30 for conference with Richard Francoviglia on organizing annual business meeting on November 5th. Saw Beth Langer in hall and she grunted at me. Looked terrible. guess her resignation doesn’t agree with her. Saw Bill Nolan just as I was leaving and he’ll help me with committee appointments along with staff.
Back to Marion for 3:30 tour of post office by members of board getting ready for MCHS tour next Monday. It will be a tremendous undertaking. Met Mary at Turroff’s for supper.

Wrote to Kathi and Bob and sent them a thousand dollars toward their new furniture. Wrote to Kristi and sent her $100 for a microwave oven or a card table set. Also wrote to Tommy and Bev Hemmerly and sent bill for things she got at shop.
Howard had call from Caledonia police. Irene Howser didn’t show up at Senior Citizen Center for bridge club she has charge of. Then police wanted Barb’s address. Later Catherine Landes called to say the police broke into house and found Irene dead in bed.
Met Mary and Geneva at Bob Evans for supper.

Open house day. To LK Convention Center at 12:00 for 60th anniversary dinner for Cleo and Dorothy Ludwig- buffet dinner beef, chicken, lasagna for vegetables and salad!
Sat with Bill and Erma Hutchman, George and Millie Brown, Coctor and Mrs. Quilter and Madge Guthrey.
Left just in time to get Treasurer’s Office to unveil Eber Baker’s portrait that was salvaged when Courthouse was raped in 1974. Carroll Neidhart gave dedication speech on redecorated offices.Then to the Marion Bank open house.

Royce here to clean. David called asking me to pick up computer at Ballingers [in Richwood] that he had just installed yesterday and bring it to Cincinnati SRC dealer and then return it to Ballinger’s. Left at 12:00 but when I got to Richwood call from David saying SRC didn’t have the board to replace on hand so I came back home.
Couldn’t get into anything so rested. Too cold to mow leaves. Color gorgeous- Oaks and Maples
Three whales trapped in ice at Barrow Alaska (-20° there) are upstaging political campaign news. Bush ahead in polls.
