In at 10:0 to be at HH when John Haas & Jim Shannon came to survey MCHS Newspaper collection. Only took them until noon as everything in on shelves and marked. Excited about Mary Brocklesby’s 1856 Independent American of Marion – I wrote news release on their program & cataloged Mary B’s donations – checks, bonds, Caledonia Memorial Meth souvenir books, etc. took Huber & MCHS News release to Star & picked up heavier paper at Laippley’s & took to Willis Nye so he can have his award redone (it’s wrinkled). Stopped at Mary Brocklesby’s with Deed of Gift for her to sign. Home & worked on entering figures in SuperCalc that I extracted yesterday. At 10 couldn’t get scroll command removed & printed out junk – still have a lot to learn.
Copied Mary Brocklesby’s Marion Tribune Centennial issue of July 3, 1922 for use in Marion book.
Terrible dream last night that our family was hiding out from Iraqis & found & persecuted.
Good way to rid myself of fears.

MCHS 10-10 10 hrs (2 hrs out)
Spent most of the day extracting financial info from Norm Fopgt’s reports & cataloging it in categories. Met Jack Telfer at 10 at HH & worked with him until 11:30 – but he doesn’t remember who did what when – no control over workers – He just OK’d all bills & gave them to Norm to pay.
Back home & put all undefined payments into a Who Knows category & will try to apportion them.
Picked Mary Brocklesby up at 5:30 & in to Turoff’s for dinner with her & Mary. To HH at 6:30 & Jim & John from Newspaper project turned in just as I did. Kept busy setting up projector – inspecting collection.
Jack spouted off about the vbaord OKing his plans – OHPO OKing them, So I gave a rebuttal – not very well. Jim & John’s talk well received. Very humorous experience in locating & documenting collections in Ohio – Home about 10:30.

Started entering data after studying tutor. Called David for advice on printing. – but I guess Super Calce has limitations of printouts until I learn how to create reports.
School closed by early fog. 10 kids sledding on hill by lower driveway,

Wrote Don Baker.
Spent 5 hrs learning Supercalc & 3 hrs entering data on Sponsors – Transformation Fund. Watched TV – 6 to 11 – But not the Super Bowl XXV
Little White Lies with Ann Jillian – Helen Kaufman called with corrections to minutes.

David’s 46th birthday. Called him & sang Happy Birthday to discombobble him. Kathi called – nice chat.
MCHS 10-4 6 hrs
Finished up packet for Exec Bd – Board minutes, agenda recouping, Function & committee chair list with letter to Helen Kaufman and Jack Telfer saying Pay attending – these things need correcting. Also wrote to Don Davis using Bill H’s suggestions – Called Matt McCoy to find out what % of his $10,500 bill was for brick work & steps. (Permanent Improvements) – he said 76% – made out a list to accompany the letter – shows $30,000 in improvements he didn’t allow for.
Mary out to see Kathi’s letters – nice chat.
I went in about 4 & copied my packets for Helen Kaufman, Eula Rhoads, Ruth & Norm Fogt & Jack Telfer – met Mary at Wendy’s for supper. Thank goodness my Alaskan quivet was wrapped up in the blanket in her car. Came out of my coat pocket when I bundled up. To Hutchman’s to have their OK on letter to Don Davis. Home – TV – & delivered packets.

Spent day sorting out the minutes & getting them organized.
Mary picked me up at 4:15 to go to Al’s in Cardington with Mary Jordan for dinner. Stopped at hardware store to get a 3 way light bulb for lajmp – needed the big base one – $5.00 He said he didn’t sell many of those old fashioned ones any more!
Worked at sorting Edith Keeler’s genealogy & nature treasures for couple of hours.

S. Hussain [sic] ordered oil tanks opened to let millions of gallons of crude oil flow into Persian Gulf. An ecological disaster.

MCHS minutes 10-3 5 hrs
Bob Whitman called from Cincinnati & we had a nice chat.
From 10-3 worked on transcribing notes of MCHS Board meeting of Jan 156 – using tape recording of meeting to sort out obscure points.
To Reece’s for meat for dinner tonight – Bill & Erma guests – Short ribs looked good so decided on Barbecue ribs, frozen pears, sweet potatoes, celery & olives – Jello fruit salad and fig newtons. They came at 5:”30 & admired the river view in fading light. Had fireplace going.
Wanted to use them as a sounding board for my ideas on putting library in Swing Room thereby removing necessity for putting wall in lobby west end. Also showed them material I prepared for campaign to stop lobby modifications. They concurred heartily.
Also show Bill the Appraisal by Don Davis. He said it is thorough for ordinary appraisal bu needs modifications that would add 20 to 25,000 to the house.
In addition the worth as a Nature Center needs to be included.
Willis Nye called to thank me for my p[art in creating the EHMA Association Award for him.
My newsletter arrived.

Royce here to clean but her heart wasn’t in it. She asked to leave early to take Chad to physichgtrist [sic]
He tried suicide last week & ended up in hospital when a friend called the Sheriff – sad.
Spent most of the day writing sample letters for members to use in protesting lobby changes. Moved boxes of Marion memorabilia to Rec Room along with OAHSM Sutff. Since Edith Keeler’s things are there a couple more boxes won’t be noticed.

Eula called & said Steve had no objection to Library not being saturated in the lobby. Will get him & his brother Tom (Probate Judge) to go look at swing room.

Letter from Kathi with program for Kristi’s graduation from PME School. It’s a NCO Preparatory School. Kathi [sic – she meant Kristi] won the Leviton award.

Finished creating labels for Newsletter Hallmarks mailing – Mostly updating the supplemental list.
In at 1:00 to pick up finished Hallmarks at Laippleys, 500 copies. $78 – so with postage the cost will be about $100 to contact about 450 people – not bad.
Mary & John Cottrell came in to help fold & affix labels. Since I ran them in a zip code index it took us less than 2 hrs. Mary & I had supper at Friendly’s before i mailed them about 4:00 PM. They were out of everything we ordered – even cole slaw.
Up to Big Banana for fruits & Nickels for bread. Then home.
Just sat & didn’t go to Men’s Garden Club to hear Killdeer Manager – had heard him at Nature Society.

War news mostly about Iraq’s Scud missiles landing in Israel.
