MCHS Newsletter 8 hrs
Fertilized annuals in front beds & watered patio beds. Called Voisard to see what they planned to do about pump for river – says Ron will be out tomorrow when David is here. Rusty called about fixing greenhouse sills. Suggest concrete bags to replace rotted wood.
Worked from 12 to 8:00 on MCHS newsletter. Tried to import it into Ventura, but get stymied.
Forgot to look at partial eclipse of sun about 3:30. Didn’t notice any darkening as I worked at computer at west window.
Got notice from Exec Dir of Amer. Assoc for State & Local History that I have been chosen for their award for contributions to local. state or regional history.
Bonnie Bell (Ed Johnson’s program Prairie Video producer) called. She had visited Dottie Morris in NJ since Willa Morris was her great aunt & Bob a favorite ‘Uncle Bob’. Had good visit.

Took plat to HH about 9:30 & found that Todd was cleaning brick & didn’t really need it. Took phone to Servex & they finally found an adapter for the 1050 Code-a-phone. Took the second code-a-phone too & they will send it in for repairs. Got home about 2 & Royce had left, house nicely cleaned.
Re-learned Super Calc & used it to lay out the Organization/School/Postal panel.
David called to say he & Josh would be up Fri. afternoon to work on pump. Gave me some SuperCalc help. Bought Crum’s sweet corn home for supper. Really good.

To Mary’s at 9:30 to leave for Cinci to celebrate Sarah’s birthday [16]. Stopped at Young’s Dairy for egg sandwich & coffee after taking back roads to Springfield. Karen didn’t want the Indiana Melons we brought, but did cook the corn. David made homemade ice cream with real cream – so good. Sarah baked her own cake – devil’s food with caramel icing trimmed with blueberries & raspberries. Gave her a set of 3 lacquered & painted boxes from China that we got at Cinci Museum Center 0 and schedule of trip to Reno on July 18-24. Home about 11:00.

MCHS Bricks 6 hrs
Got up at 2:00 & worked on rows 21 thru 26 of B panel – then got most of Lower Corridor D (by Print Shop) done before deciding it’s 19 bricks in a row is too many. Will divide it into people & organizations. Quit at 7:30 – bath, breakfast & by then Delmar Brewer was here. Pulled his 12’ wagon into lower woods with tractor & filled it 3 times with down wood. Also trimmed low hanging trees – He reset the walk on middle terrace & sprayed Roundup on walks & terrace. I fished hardy lily out of pond where I put it last winter when the pool was dry. Both the tropical & hardy ones I got this spring are blooming.
Redid Mary’s will on computer. She brot corn out. I fried pork chops & we ate on deck. 94 but a little breeze.
To Doris & John Hickson’s topick up his apple disks that he has entered all collections info on. Lovely home on Van Meter land in Oak Savannah. Interesting collections of Ohiop River glass & paper weights & Lenox birds.
To HH to take plat & clarify records.

Thank God – water pouring out of the faucets – Put more mulch on middle terrace begonias. Hauled weeds to compost pile. Came in hot! Nice bath. In at 12:00 for Committee Meeting on revising Collections management. John Hickson’s draft had merit – added other collections to the Harding one mentioned – Library. Hall of Fame, edward Huber. John wants Accessions Committee to de-accession without board ok. (He likes to throw duplicates & poor quality items in waste basket with impunity.) I called LHO (Brad) for advice and suggested a little party for Richard after Board Meeting. Will get back to me Monday.
Took Richard’s plaque material to trophies and More – closed! Cashed $100 check at Marion bank – $4,700 balance. Picked up airline tickets at Uniglobe & used their air conditioning for ½ hr while I studied Ventura. Waiting for Marys to pick me up to go to Al’s for dinner. To Dr. Ginns on way home to see his daylitlies. Said 1,060 varieties blooming – a sea of shades of orange & yellow. Impressive Home & to bed at 8:30 – Exhausted.

Enlarged a bed along the rail fence by the road where I planted the Simplicity Roses this spring. Also set out variegated yucca by steps. Planted the 3 red phlopx & put tomato cages around them, put lawn weed barrier & mulched them. Bu 10:30 it was pretty hot – Bath & in to computer. Letter from Bob Harter asking for Michigan Lily bulbs so went down into woods & dug about 25 small ones & 1 blooming size.
[insert photo of Michigan Lily in June 2023]
Kensel Clutter called to tell me he stopped the Brush Hogs yesterday from mowing the Claridon Prairie clear to the tracks. They got all of the tall coreopsis at the east end. They said their instructions were to mow everything & they did along here just barely missing my clump of little blue stem across the road.
Worked on learning Ventura Publisher all afternoon. When I went out to get supper – No Water! I know I had turned it off since I took at bath. Found the lower hose disconnected & tied around a tree. The spigot open & water had run on driveway.
Window at Fairground will cost $565 – mine $195.

.2 in rain – Better than nothing but need 2 inches
MCHS 2 hr
Finished setting ou the 2 flats of begonias (bargain $6) & was mulching them when Mary came with a letter from Kathi and more wildflower pictures. She suggested we go to Turner’s* – S of Waldo on Rt 23 to pick blueberries & then on down to Oakland Nursery for the 2 cu ft mult (cypress for $1.50 – Couldn’t believe the quantity of blueberries – clusters bigger than my hand with ripe and reopening ones. $1 lb – u-pick rather than $1.40 per point, picked. Got about 3 lbs in less than 20 min. At Oakland got mulch & I also bought 2 grass clumps & a variegated yucca 3 for $31 & 4 bags mulch. Home via Rt 42 & had blueberry short cake for lunch. Got computer to print out labels on the Avery Laser labels I got yesterday.
Ronnie from Voisards came to see about installing river pump but said boss would have to design it.
Then Phil Postell came & said need a new screen for patio door & screws tightened to line it up. Will give estimate on it & new window on 229 Fairground.
