Bill Hutchman drove for our participation in the Killdeer Plains Audubon C’mas Bird Count. Group met at Denny’s for bfst & headed out into rainy, dreary, foggy morning. We got 18 species & 1,377 individuals – Nothing special except a probably rough-legged hawk. Ate lunch in car parked at Ridgedale School waiting for Audrey Clagers from Carey. He’s a character. Supper at Hutchman’s. Erma’s stir fry & then took report to Lux.

MCHS brick certificates ½ hr
Errand day- took brick certificate mailing to the PO & swung past McDaniel Olds to check on side view mirror but closed weekends. – Stopped at Bernard & Bette Brooks to give him the Horatio Alger Jr. book Bernard Brooks Adventures that I bought at Charm. He was sitting at table smoking & drinking coffee & looked good but not much pep. Liked the book.
Stopped at Hemmerly’s to give Kass letter showing gift of 5 shares – but even ½ off on C’mas items were still pricey. Stopped at Meijer who is selling out before moving to Rt 23 & 95 on Jan. 1. Bought gifts for rest of year. Then to County Market for 35 cents/gal water & deli food. To Wal-Mart to pick up pix of C’mas that I left Mon. Then to Servex to exchange Eureka sweeper attachment plate for one with proper latch on it. Home about 2:30 – Ate – watched home shows on TV.

MCHS 9 hrs Brick Certificates
Entered the location in data base for bricks that will be laid Monday & then printed out those & the group I had corrected. In at 12:00 to pick up envelopes with return & postage imprint at HH the lobby entrance had been painted making getting into auditorium a hassle. Fran & Jim Mautz & Connie Gibson & Mary in to help stuff. Everything worked perfectly. Mary & I took off at 4:00 to go to Al’s in Cardington for supper – took Mary J & Helen Romine with us. Other workers finished sorting on ziop & left. Mary & I back at 5:30 – Found others had folded all the envelope lap[s down so had to pull all 708 of the back flat before we cold seal them. Finished about 8:30 & took to PO but even bulk mail area was closed. Home about 9:15

MCHS 9 hrs Brick certificates
Photos at Kroger’s after Mary & I had dinner at Isalys.
FInished entering the corrections – then called David & he set up the new file by filtering out the True for p[rint. I tried in out on Ventura & it works.
Wrote up the news release for the Star on dedication of bricks & took it in. At Heritage Hall laid out the postal area for bricks we have & with Mary’s help have them lined up for Todd to lay Monday.
Watched TV & worked crossword puzzle to unwind. Wilda Fulton called to check on Howard as she is called friend of Alice’s in Cape Coral, FL and wanted to report. Alices’s money from her house about gone. (and her mother’s house!)
Called Helen Sheneman. Aunt Ruth in hospital for 2 weeks. Her lower leg swollen with infection & that is better, but lungs & colon infected. Helen sounds so discouraged. She seemed to have same kind of infection that I had in Nov.

MCHS 10hrs brick certificates
Dave called & talked over ½ hr – his C’mas gift to me – thinking of refinancing their house to take advantage of lower interest rates – or getting a line of credit (loan) to pay off credit cards – Dee not living at home, but has a new & better job. 40 hrs week – 9 to 5 at Commissary at Naval Hospital. She is ‘mixed up’ & needs time to herself -0 He enjoyed my C’mas box.
Kathi called to thank me for their gifts. Thanks the video taper (for slides & movies) might be difficult to work.
That was my Christmas Day celebration. Worked all day on Certificates for brick purchasers. Finished signing the 800 letters & sorted the certificates for ones that needed correcting.
Started reentering them & set up a Print field so they can be filtered & print only them.
Gave Howard 10 crossword puzzles & a large boxe of shortbread cookies.

Tuesday, December 24, 1991
MCHS 6 ½ hrs certificate letters
Worked all day writing letter to go with certificates – OPne version for those who bought 1 brick & another for those who bought more than 1.
Then got most of them signed before going to Mary’s for pizza at 5:00 – Looked at her new Covered Bridge book before we toured Marion to see the C’mas lights – many so elaborate, some tasteful, some gaudy.
Home about 8 – didn’t bother to hang up my stocking!

Monday, December 23, 1991
Christmas Day for me
David & Susannah woke me at 9:00 – I finally got sleep & hadn’t heard a thing. Mary was here & ready to make Belgian Waffles for breakfast. Also has sausage & orange juice.
And then we opened gifts – what took me all day to wrap took the recipients about 3 minutes to open. Mary gave me her picture framed – a book of Ohio city maps – a ceramic house & candy bars – Symphony chocolate & licorice toffee. The kids gave me a finer towel, a corn de-silker brush & a set of spie labels. David gave a book ‘A Trip to New Connecticut in 1810” by Margaret Dewight – a 20 yar old – Same period the Hildreth’s made their trip over the Pa mts. Karen brought a buck of her fine cookies – many kinds. Kathi sent a $50 JC Penny gift certificate & a Yosemite calendar.
Gave the family the salad bar at Ponderosa for Christmas DInner about 3:30 – Then they left for Cincinnati & I came home & lit my Christmas lights.

Sunday, December 22, 1991
Busy all day – last minute prep & getting dinner. Had to go to Marion to get mushrooms & beef bullion for beef stroganoff. Haldeman’s here at 4:30 & Mary came after dinner. Then guests started coming in – So good to have so many of Mary J’s family – about 15 of the 36 here. Sarah played flute solo Oh Holy Night – Helen Romine & her whole family here. Missed Marilee, Geneva & Carl Jordan – but life goes on!

Saturday, December 21, 1991
Royce cleaned with new Eureka sweeper – says it pulls the dirt out better. I cleaned the refrigerator & the attic steps & washed window sills & shutters on front porch. Exhausted when Royce left at 1:30 – Came at 10:10 – gave her $35 & asked Howard to give her $20 since she cleans his room too.
Took an hour nap since I’d worked 4 hrs straight.
Richard Francoviglia called from Arlington TX to wish me Happy Holidays. Loves setting up new dept of Southwestern Studies at Texas Univ. Congratulated him on ‘Hard Places.’
Wrote checks for Haldeman’s & put them in books.

Friday, December 20, 1991
Made an artemisia wreath on grapevine from material Martha gave me. Also made double batch of Chex Mix.
Can’t seem to get to bottom of all the piles of papers.
In at 3:30 to Mary Jordan’s – Mary H &I to Prospect Hocking Valley Depot for dinner – Mary J’s Christmas treat. Took her a Terradise door piece that I made & a Hemmerly’s calendar.
